Freedom is a curse and a blessing.
What is free is chaos and the road to chaos - degeneration - will almost feel like it's paying you as tho going downhill was easier in some way. You could be someone who doesn't concentrate or focus on a thing; poolside.

When I was little I was taught that it meant that you needed to be informed, responsible, and place our Constitutional rights before and above our personal self interest. That to be free, we needed to limit the power of our government. That we needed to protect the individuals rights, because we believed that if the government could take away one individuals rights, it could take away everyone's rights. Those ideas seem quaint as our government now kidnaps, tortures, and denies due process to individuals with immunity; and people vote mainly for their personal self interest. Yet I still hear the saying bantered around. So what does it mean today?

On a personal level a person can feel free, perhaps be free yet in a society freedom is a more complex term.
There are very few countries were governments are for the citizens but the people of those countries are informed, educated and with a social conscience.
All countries have to walk their own path to freedom yet corrupt politicians are doing their best effort to delay it for there personal economical benefit and if citizens keep buying and drinking the politician kool-aide, that will take longer to reach freedom as a society.
