rizlared: The French election will affect far more than just the French. It will have a direct affect on the UK's Brexit, and how other countries maintain their commitment to the EU.
All that will have a big influence on North America, so this election is of great importance to vast areas outside of France too.

Good news for Brexit if Le Pen wins this time. But even if Len Pen loses, she wins. She's a major force in French politics and when Macron moves to Americanise and destroy the relaxed French way of life this will ensure the decline of neoliberalism. It's that relaxed way of life so despised from a capitalist perspective which allows the French to be tolerant of global capitalism and diversity. Neoliberals will devour their own host and actually destory a country's ability to be tolerant.

BritishLondon: Nobody works harder than he who thinks he's not good enough and low self-esteem is the motor of aggressive economies. The French still think they're worth something and to be French means something. There's a self-respect and dignity to the French which capitalism must first smash before it elects a strongman.

Much of the developing world is motivated by this same inferiority complex - the little guy mentality. And liberal democracy doesn't work in the developing world for that reason. Nonetheless they allow for a feverish work ethic and a no holds barred race to the bottom.

Contrast this with the greatest generation who knew themselves to be heroes and they did feel themselves deserving of this, this, that and the other in society and the first thing they did after the war is remove bullish wartime strongmen leaders. Today we're the polar opposite psychology of that. Trump is an anti-hero as is Duterte and Putin and Erdogan etc. It all represents the shrinking of the human spirit.

Le Pen has a clear and direct program, while Macron is a Mr. Nobody whose evanescent proposals are those of the eurocrats in Brussels.

Quote of the year. Le Pen to Macron:

“France will be run by a woman whatever happens,” Le Pen said. “Either by me or by Mrs. Merkel.”laugh

Tomorrow we'll know who's the new President of France.

A man or a woman?

An euroskeptic, or an europeist?.

Both have pushed the traditional parties of left and right of the second round.

The winner is Macron, but Le Pen waits for her opportunity in the next legislative elections.
