Track16: The message from society today is thinner, thinner, thinner. This needs to change. To me, too thin looks unhealthy (Both men and women). Its an near impossible standard that is causing physical and mental health issues yet society seems bent on keeping it this way.

Yep, society and media influences people's perception of what is and isn't acceptable and it's caused a lot of grief for both genders. sigh

"Rodrigo Alves aka the ‘Human Ken doll’ has just had his 51st plastic surgery procedure, this time receiving a CO2 laser treatment to improve the texture of his skin.

Alves, 33, tells PEOPLE he has now spent 375,000 British pounds (about $465,000) on all of his plastic surgery plus 105 aesthetic procedures. He decided to go under the knife after being teased for his appearance as a child growing up in Brazil.

“I used to to be fat and didn’t fit into the Brazilian beauty stereotype, and for that reason I used to get bullied by boys and singled out at school growing up in Brazil,” he says. “I also had a very wide nose and my nickname was ‘potato nose.’ ”

BritishLondon: The healthy middle is what's lost between the growing basket of deplorable fatness and the 1% barbie doll. The extremes are each others excuse or motivation to not live rightly. Raising standards to extremes encourages losers to have no standards - they give up - and this then flabbiness of the mass fuels the narcissism of the vapid shells - it's what makes it so special, so exceptional to be unhealthily thin even tho many times they look like an AIDS patient behind the make up.

There are many factors for a person's phenotype expression.
Obesity is not exclusive of any economic strata and eating disorders applies as well.

For a person to be fit or not:
Genetics is first, then nourishment, then micro-economics (eating healthy can be expensive in developed countries), type of life, hormones, internet time, motivations, ...etc. and etc

Excess weight is not good for health and in the run people have to pay for it: diabetes, heart diseases, etc..but if anyone thinks that overweight is the worst condition think twice.

With the media promoting thinness some people fail into eating disorders and I have seen the friend of one of my children being hospitalized because of anorexia. She felt fat even though she was thin and she was never happy and Anorexic people undergo loss of muscular mass that will not gain ever again.

Eating well is the best approach and forget the statistics.

That Ken guy looks creepy. I wonder if he ever met the human Barbie? They would probably hate each other.

When I was 17 I weighed 155lbs I hit 165 when I was working in construction I had to shovel about 2 tons of dirt. My legs got so strong I had difficulty walking, I had to run. I've been as low as 145. I just weighed myself and I'm 155 right now. When I was 15 my mother made me a shirt which I designed it had short sleeves and was black with white thread and white buttons. It was awesome. It still fits me like a glove. I don't work out although as a young man I was into lifting weights for a while but not seriously. I abhor anything identified as Lo Fat or Diet. I wont touch Margarine although we were poor then and that's all we could afford, never again, it's butter now and whole milk. One day when I was about 25 I had a craving for butter so I went to the store and bought a 1/4 lb stick of butter and ate the whole thing like a candy bar. I eat junk food til I'm full. Sometimes I completely forget to eat.

Hiya Ooby wave You're one of the lucky ones who can go through life without too much difficulty maintaining your weight....must be in your genes. I was extremely skinny most of my life and hormone changes later on caused some weight gain so some simple diet changes and more activity has made a huge difference with my weight and health. applause

I know right? Sometimes I think dieting actually makes you fat by forcing the body to hoard calories. I think it's some kind of trigger. There seems to be new thinking along these lines. It may be something from when people lived in caves and there was no telling when they would eat again so the body learned to conserve food.

unlaoised: Her choice

When she is all over the magazines, being promoted as a model and people in her position are flattered and think that's OK, when young girls embrace the unhealthy fatness just because some idiots wants us to believe we have to set the standard so low to the point there is no standard at all. Then it is not about her choice anymore...
