The way I see things, if you're not here to change anybodies mind, you may as well far cough somewhere.

I don't see anything wrong in changing someone's mind, if one manages to do so, the other one obviously needed it...and is willing to see his point...

I agree. Don't see anything wrong with changing someones mind. It's just that some are not open for this to happen. I am one of those. I don't want to change anyone's mind, BUT I also don't want anyone to try and change my mind. I love hearing what others have to say, but don't try to sway me.professor

Which is why I say...that's my story and I'm sticking to it

There are few things I enjoy more than a good debate where someone can put forward a logical argument which changes my perspective, or opinion.

Unfortunately, there are very few people who can put forward a logical argument, or respond to one.

The word argument is what bothers me.handshake

The argument in this case is more of a logical statement or proof, not pure arguing, me thinks...

Van Gogh used to get real mad, like crazy

when someone approaching to him to tell him

you have to change your style. All hell broke loose.

@Sergio...

Then you misunderstand the word 'argument' in this context.

It is a technical term used in the fields of logic, philosophy, discussion, debate, etc. I wasn't referring to the common meaning of bickering, or rowing.

no, I truly understood your message. It was a crude attempt at humor. There are just a few words in the English language that I just don't like...like "my" and "argue"handshake handshake

I think you are assuming that Jac means bickering when she used the word argument.

I wouldn't dare try to change Jac's post uh oh but I think she might have meant to use the word debate.

In legal trials both attorneys need to argue their case which is a legal argument to prove their points.

sergio09: I am aware that there are those that feel they are the final authority on all matters. I respect that! However, when a person makes a statement or comment to a thread, even if you don't like it, do they care?
Stating an opinion, is simply that, stating an opinion. Not trying to change anyone's mind, but willing to read your opinion. Then we move on.

The purpose of the threads is to help people learn about possible relationships. They help people get to know the real people and what is inside them. To argue over differences does nothing. Name calling and insults are juvenile.

IF I were looking for a relationship, I would want to know what their political and religious views are. I would want to know their strengths and weaknesses, But would not try to change the way they think. That is childish.

Can't we just respect that others
disagree with us and accept that then move on?

Just curious how you folks think about this....
Well its like this.
We live in a divided world which would simply benefit from a cooperative interaction but were not.
We the world are still sorting it out but unfortunately we are not privy to the money that can be made manipulating that thought. Just watch the news and try not to think.

Unfortunately, when your dealing with 200+ countries, 5 or so different races, English not being a first language for many, the intent on outcomes can be easily twisted/distorted and taken out of context. I see it myself when texting with friends.Sometimes one can interpret a sentence in two entirely different ways...Global communication exists, but global understanding is far far far away.
