But the bit that got me was- Dont even bother if you are over 45 and havent really looked after yourself well...
Hmm, I must have lucky genes because I have made little effort over the years (I do physical work I guess), and would distinctly be right out of her league (and I'm nothing special I assure you). She had "curvy" but I would say fat, but maybe thats just me being angular.
Short answer, is there any point looking at profiles?

When I look at profiles, the first thing I look at is distance. Really! The next thing I look at is age. The closer to my age, the better. Then I look at what type of relationship they are wanting. Finally I look at their appearance. If all meet that criteria, I will send a like. I honestly want to meet someone for occasional dating, but willl NEVER be in a relationship again. But I do want a close friend.

Thing is, if I search local members, the only one that posts stuff is maybe 2800km away and not in the same age bracket as me... So I'm not going to get bent out of shape about it all.

* SHOUTING AT SCAMMERS is a waste of time and makes you seem ... well, abit wobbly to say the least!
* Cougar ... a woman using that term is never going to be suitable 'long term relationship material' the term is generally synonomous with a women who's goal is a string of younger / much younger lovers who use and discard her. Cougars are the worst kind of game players and generally (as a result) have more baggage than there is hold space in a supertanker!
* Passionate ... you claim to be 'passionate' and 'easy going' but then negate that with 'have to be friends first etc etc'
And then that 'warning' about being alone ... " REMEMBER: The older we get, the harder it is to find a single person, most are already taken. If you still wanna live alone, then do it, but you may regret that someday when it maybe too late. " Stating the obvious is a real turn off eh?
You might well BE the " Nicest Ole Gal in Ringgold, Georgia " but lady ... your marketing really sucks :-)

That IS in fact 'The Entire Goal of Marketing' ... to get a response, because if you Don't get a response then there's no chance of 'Making a Sale'

Actually, the one that points out on 'mistakes" is the bigger friend, if things are said in a tactful and respectful way.
"Making a sale" gives away your professional way of thinking in sale industry.

I try not to check profiles when signed in...I don't want them to get wrong ideas...
You know, someone has viewed yours, looks interesting, you want to see his/her profile too.
If they approach me with a mail then it's ok...
I like some profiles, especially when they are updated with some funny, witty lines from time to time...

All of the reply's made the assumption that "hardly any responses" was/is a consequence of how you worded your profile?.
I noticed that no mention was made of the forums/blogs?.

Probably the actual persons (profile owners) don't think to do that as they suspect they may be back later
Then, when they don't use the account 'for a while' they forget it exists ... they come back (if they do) and create new profiles
And for web site owners ... esp free site operators, it's in their own best interests to have the highest possible number on the membership roll as that's how they earn their income!
