I retired today and i think it is going to take a while to get used to it.
no alarm clock to be set, no planning stuff around work, no going to work when
i don't feel like going.

My only advice to you is first to have some holidays just lazying around then. ..find yourself some hobbies that you never had time to do...go to some classes...go out for a daily walk etc.. do some voluntary work..

Once retired we do need to keep our body and mind active.

Do not sit about, go to Spain and buy yourself a cheap house in a country town and let all that want to see you come of their own free will but always say you only have a one bed house.

Get involved. Don't get lonely. Don't get lazy. keep a bright smile and see it as a NEW chapter in your life. You are starting out on a brand new adventure, just as you did growing up.

I know I don't need to tell you this, as you are already a spirited woman. Enjoy your retirement. It can be fun!cheering

There is a term used in psychology which is applied to circumstances like retirement: trained incapacity.

It refers to the sudden change from having a routine to having none - you mentioned yourself, no getting up to an alarm, no organising around a work schedule, etc.

It's not uncommon for people to take a year, or so to readjust. It's also not uncommon for people to become depressed in a similar way that some students do after finals: stress levels drop quickly, but arousal levels take longer which can mess with your body chemistry.

Rest is good, new activities and routine are good, but also remember not to berate yourself if it takes a while to adjust. Try to remember it's a process which will likely have highs and lows by default.

....Hi Anna.....just wishing you all the best in your retirement... handshake..... Just to say I took early retirement a few year's ago and do not have any regrets.....but....saying that.....It does take a bit of time to adjust to.....I spent many mornings during my 30 years working thinking it would be heaven on earth to be able to stay at home from work and just have the freedom to do anything I'd please for the day.....Strange thing was that, after the first few months were over, I all of a sudden felt a bit of a void in not being part of a place where I had lots of friends and felt an attachment to the company I worked for......Only advice I would give you would be to stay in touch with a few of the people you were close to.....it can easily happen that we could get too isolated and loose touch......otherwise.....it is definitely important to pursue some hobbies or interests that you may not have had time to indulge in over the years.....wish you the best....handshake
