Many, many moons ago, I was married to a man who had a TERRIBLE habit of leaving his dirty, stinky socks all over the house. I explained it to him countless times that it grossed me out when I had to pick them up and unravel them to wash them.
He said he would work on it and apologized. On NUMEROUS occasions.
I finally stopped asking and instead, every time he left his socks anywhere but in the laundry basket AND UNRAVLED, I simply picked them out and threw them away without warning.
He had A LOT of socks and it took some time to run out, but when he asked me why he didn't have any clean socks and I told him exactly why he didn't have any clean socks and that actually he no longer had any socks at all!!

Not sure where they go but I've found a sock or two tucked in under the agitator in the washing machine so that's likely one of many spots they can go.

That's funny! When he finally realized that I was being 100% truthful, that I had thrown each and every pair away for the previous few weeks or however long it took, the look on his priceless! He looked at me dumb-founded and shocked??!?!

but after he learned his socks lesson he developed another bad habit, shame on him!
The disappearing act. Shame on him
so that also went on for quite some time, caused many arguments and sleepless nights. One Sunday afternoon, he strolled in after being gone for a day and half, he didn't answer my calls the whole time he was gone, AS USUAL! Not knowing if he was dead, alive, incarcerated or getting laid, etc.
He strolls in as if it was no big deal. So I decided to play along. I asked if he was hungry and if he wanted his favorite meal prepared. He did. I made him his favorite stew with my new secret ingredient, "revenge"lol
I added just enough to aggravate him throughout the next and into the next day where he'd be at work with his usual hangover. I added some laxatives and he never knew why he had the *hits and stomach cramps so badly. He assumed he had caught some stomach bug!
He never figured it out! At the time, it was sweet justice to me!

I don't think you have truly come clean, unless you are indeed a good woman who was being treated badly.
As far as my ex is concerned, now that I have had time to think and figure out the facts she would be afraid to be friends with me because true friend don't have scary pasts....I know some men are vindictive...but I am not one of them.
The ex convinced my daughter the poor guy is the best for her and she believed her. I don't think I will have any real say until they have been married for about five years.
