The fire declared in the area of ??Pedrógão Grande, in central Portugal, has already killed 39 people, and 59 injured.

The charred corpses of at least 25 people were found on the road, about 50 kilometers from the university city of Coimbra, in central Portugal.

Most of the victims died in their vehicles, while some were hit by flames on the highway while trying to flee on foot from the danger around them.

At least two people remain missing and 20 survivors of the tragedy are hospitalized, all in serious condition.

Yes but here there will be no "Just Giving" page with millions donated, no one will offer money and the government will do the minimum to keep face, as any Socialist would do, insurance companies will be slow to answer the phone and will bicker to the last cent as to whether it was an "act of cod" or not. If you are a foreigner here you will get less but in UK all the foreigners that were in the tower block will be well looked after with social security money even though they have never worked in their lives or contributed to the State coffers.

What you should know is that this was set by someone or others and the police are after them, this happens every year and l remember years ago 31 were in prison. If you have a country where absolute idiots set fire to the countryside you don't stand a chance, in Spain it is the same and l also remember a huge fire about 25 years ago that some idiot started between Calpe and Altea that stopped all traffic on the main road for some days.

What will happen is that the government will ask the EU for 50 million euros and they will get it, then all families will get 50 euros and the rest will go in the boot of an Audi to Switzerland like the other money did. the people in power have been caught so many times and the old Prime Minister has only recently been let out of prison.

The top boss of bank Espirito Santo had a 'gift' from a friend, it was only 23 million, do you have any idea of how long you would need to take it up the Jaxi without Vaseline for your friend to 'give' you 23 million euros?, the bank went bust and in another 40 years when the Geezer is dead and gone the government will say there is no case to answer as he is dead.

My social security is a little under 140 euros a day, l 'officially' work 20 days a month, how many others like me in Portugal l have no idea but l bet that there is no pension rights for me although for others there will be.

57 dead by now, and wish no increase.

There's no negligence, the wind suddenly changed and fire surrounded the road to escape.

Many forest fires are intentional in portugal and Spain.

I have no ideas as how little you charge to (quote you) take it up the Jaxi so I'm not at liberty to perform any calculations !

BUT having said that ... the UK Financial Times is generally a reliable source for news and it reports that a combination of extremely dry weather and a lightning storm are reported to be the causes ...

Maybe though you could allow a little time for compassion before hitting the button labelled 'exploit a disaster for political point scoring' ?

Kindest thought and compassion to those in Portugal who have suffered injuries and the loss of life of their loved ones.

sad flower That happened in Colorado a few years back.... The wind changed and trapped firefighters. It can change things really fast. All fires are tragic, a neighbor of mine lost everything except his pets and some photos. sad flower

You need stop quoting UK rags and start reading Portuguese newspapers and also listening to Portuguese Radio then you would not have the brains of a Rocking Horse. Also don't post to me like you speak to your Father.

I have a friend who is in the BCN fire brigrade, in BCN (Barcelona) he's very busy with fires occuring in the forest areas during summer and yes I guess many are intentional - hard to catch the psychos who initiate a fire.

I hope they will be able to stop the Portugal fire soon so no more people die sad flower

As it happens I had great respect for my late father ... he was was an intelligent, likeable man and I was moved but not surprised by the number who attended his funeral 30 years ago. In fact, I could go so far as to say that he was everything that you are not and could never even aspire to be.

I hope that one day you might grow up and develop for yourself some attractive human and humane character traits ... I can hope for that for you, but I'm certainly not going to try holding my breath while it happens!

Seeing you whine about living on a miserable 140 Euros a day and making cheap political points off the back of a human disaster ... wonders what stinking rotteneffluent went into your gene pool.

Fox News channel here just reported on this fire. They said that a lightning strike is the prime suspect for being the source of ignition.
