Be really amassing trip if either the communist or muslim terrorists get hold of you. Can't think of anything sillier than cycling any where south of Surat Thani, even near Surat Thani you'd be asking for trouble and causing others lots of heart ache having to watch your head rolling on the ground. irresponsible stupidity i think pretty well covers what you are planing to do

Sorry, too far away, not in my plans, and like a moped, I have not ridden 125cc since my 14th birthday. Enjoy your retirement!

Sounds a lot of fun ... hope it goes well for you Chef :-)
when you overland from Malay boarder to Surat Thani then take a boat out to lovely Koh Samui Island half the Thai Army boards the train in the past whole trains have been robbed. There is ongoing full blown war going on even today in that region. A dirty war on par with Mindanao in southern Philippines, hundreds thousands have been killed. Also a communist insurgency has continued for years along the Malay Thai boarder, and many Burmese Rohingya have been held in jungle cages in that region. Over just past few days many corrupt Thai military Senior Officers have just been arrested in relation the latter. I strongly urge any CS member to consider very very carefully before having anything to do with that sort of venture in those regions of southern Thailand...
DOne this trip a year ago and seen nothing like you write down here. More chances to get killed in a nightclub in PAris or walking on a bridge in London or in a plane above Ukraine.

Try to google 'Thailand Road Deaths 2016'
'The Department of Land Transport said 426 people died in 3,327 accidents between Dec. 29 and Jan. 3, up from 340 in the year-earlier period.
Thailand's road death rate is the highest in the world apart from war-ravaged Libya, according to a 2015 World Health Organization report.'
