Chris8739: That is a bass fiddle I made some years ago. It has surprisingly good tone, either plucked or bowed, for a metal washtub. It's easy to play as well. and tuning accuracy is really not as important as you might imagine. The primary role of the bass is percussive.

For Ali's purpose, he should consider a bass or a cello in his solicitations. The bigger the better. Another poster suggested using a guitar, but this bass is a virtual chick magnet. It conceals the goods of course, so their imagination can run wild. And when they think what is directly receiving the vibrations from the back, it is even more lubrilicious to them.

Why do you think there are so many black jazz players with a full size bass? The rock and roll guys with their little electric basses are all show and no go.

having been a Part time professional drummer with jazz & big bands and Rock & Fusion groups until 2000 when I had top pack up for health reasons I disagree with you on that Pimt and draw attention to Lionel Hampton, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Stan Kenton in particular and The MJQ, Dave Brubeck and Gerry Mulligan Quartets to name a few where the bass was always way above being a just job. cheers cheers

All jazz players where the string bass has always had a prominent role in melody and solo. No argument there.

Sorry you gave up the skins.

Cheers - I packed it all up on the Quacks advice an I still miss it
The Kit was a 5 drum Black Pearl Premier, with mainly proper Zildjians and One divine 18" ride that I could even chanege key with - Everyone with a proper Ear Loved it and swore was also a Zildjian.
In fact it was a 5 Star Super Zyn that I had hand picked in 1969 just before I bought the kit, for concert Orchestra work when I had an Olympic (second grade Premier) with a Ludwig Concert Snare Drum Lovely thing - The Premier never owed me any money and I retained the Ludwig too, for Pit work.

cheers cheers
