MikeD12: With respect - Tens machines may help for muscle strain like we used to get in Engineering machine and Fitting shops when I was working, but, as he said, it was a military injury, so I suggest the Neuropathy treatment he needs now will probably have to be more intensive.

Yes I agree Mikewine
He asked if anyone suffered from neuropathic pain, I was only describing my type.
They're are many different types of this issue, and your responses were probably more helpful than mine hug wave

Hi Lil wave

One thing I didn't realise until I checked is that Tens machines are not as expensive as they used to be in the UK

There is no doubt that this one gives some relief to the rheumatic pains Old sods get indoors
from sitting in a Draught and get "dead shoulder" when you can't even lift it. laugh laugh laugh

They used to be quite expensive here in Canada, years ago, I acquired one for 400$, that was the cheapest.
Now they sell for under 100$, I managed to get one just before Xmas last year. It does help with neuropathic pain, as in some cases, its basically your brain telling you that you feel pain, its your nerves going haywire. This machine corrects the pathways of response.

To your draught beer laugh comfort

Rustymc64: After back surgery in 2006 my legs hurt worse than ever. I dont work anymore. And the only thing that helps is cannabis. Lyrica didnt seem to help at all.Im rx'd nurontins 4 it but they barely help.. Btw thanks for your service

I was on Lyrica for a long while but my pain got worse and now I'm on an opiod medication which is good but has difficult side effects. Maybe if Lyrica isn't doing it for you you could try something stronger, there are plenty of such things but getting a GP to give them to you can be hard. Haven't tried Cannabis for it yet.

Oh yeah. Decades ago when I broke my back in a 50 foot fall, the pain incurred afterwards - well, the rural doctors in my world had no name for it. Just recently, I re-injured my back (collapsed discs and several compression fractures), and I have other "hard-play" injuries that plague me. Neuropathic pain short-changed me on my career (just recently) by several years. Pharmaceutical can ease the "rough moments". Cannabis works up to moderate pain levels, but despite the recent paranoia, opioids, be they natural or synthetic, can be beneficial when pain creeps into the realm of severe. Proper physical activity is by far the most therapeutic course of action! Then comes attitude! Keep it positive and remember, the workplace isn't always about how HARD you can physically work, but how effectively you can work within your limitations. Stephen Hawking can only "blink" at a computer screen - I hear he is doing okay. Were you awarded any disability "pension?" Explore the possibilities (but yes, pain does suck! I know that it can often times approach unbearable)! May you fare well! cheers handshake

One2note: Sometime I think the forums have become a google site of useless information.!

Cut them some slack One....yes, in my day it was called a "dictionary"....oh wait a minute, I should explain myself to the young ones - a dictionary was a "book", okay, wait a minute - okay, a "book" was an ancient device used to communicate knowledge, and was useful for learning things, starting fires, leveling a wobbly table, propping open a door, or selling at auction for a great deal of money if it was a First Edition doorstop.

rhughes15: pain I have is all over right side of head and as doc said nerves in frontal lobe, lovely hand tremors as well , at least I'm alive and can walk,

Okay, I should read the entire thread before commenting. I suffer from spinal neuropathy. It appears you suffer from cranial neuropathy. Has it been diagnosed to any nerve level (level palsy?) Time will be your best friend(well, for many cases). Meds, sometimes surgery...best to be discussed with a specialist. Staying healthy will also help!handshake

A fellow spinal neuropathy! Okay, I have some surgeons suggesting spinal surgery...what did you go under the knife for? I hear more "bad" than "good" when it comes to spinal surgery....definitely seeking opinion(S)

OldeGuy: When it comes to pain, my experience has been, people do not want to hear about it. What they want is for you to Smile through the Pain and like Tiny Tim in a Dickens tale, say "God Bless Us One and All/". Suffering is suppose to make a better man of you. And if you buy that I can give you a good price on the Brookllyn Bridge.

Here in the US we have an epidemic of old people overdosing on pain pills. The politicians answer being to punish the doctors who prescribe these controlled drugs. This is not to say I endorse suicide. If that was your answer, you probably would not be here looking for answers.

I am sorry to say, I don't have an answer for you. I do know medical researchers are making incredible inroads with MRI brain scans. There is also some interesting, though heavily frowned upon, work with stem cells that could well lead to tissue regeneration.

Me, I use sarcasm and dark humor to stay sane. It is not Tiny Tim, but it works for me.

You speak from I what I consider to be a well-informed vantage point. It is not much different here in Canada. I too use dark humour and sarcasm....and fully support stem-cell research. handshake

Lilith10: I also suffer from neuropathic pain in my left shoulder from my roofing days.
It debilitated me at one point, but I have found physiotherapy, traction,heat/cold pads, and daily exercise helps.
I have to constantly be aware of my shoulder tensing up, it draws right upwards to my ear sometimes without me realizing it. I also use what is called a TENS machine, that is quite common here for this type of injury. Works really well as you can walk around with it on and noone even knows your wearing it. Also I have found massage treatments work well on a biweekly basis for me anyways.
Sorry to hear about your plight, hope you can find some relief soon.

Alas Lilith, I too thought he was referring to a form of musculoskeletal neuropathy. Rathjer he seems to be suffering from cranial neuropathy. Although any form of properly conducted physical exercise is beneficial to ALL, it will do little to ease the symptoms of cranial neuropathies. And no, I am no Doogie Howser MD! Nope, I watched not only Marcus Welby, but remember all too well "Doc" off of Gunsmoke! But when push comes to shove regarding medicine...I go for a gentle walk along with some proper stretching, before two bong hits, the "therapeutic" sofa and watching to ultimate in medical advice!
