2intrigued: True dat

I find container gardening quite tricky conversing

You have to get the right mix of nutrients and moisture and they're so needy on that front laugh

The thing I do like though is that potted plants are ideal for me as my yard is quite shady which doesn't lend itself to growing veg which of course enjoy sunshine for most of the day to produce a good crop conversing

I can move them about and stick em out in the rain; last summer I had great success with small lettuce varieties, tiny tomatoes, various herbs and a bountiful chilli crop which I picked and still use from the freezer

I'll be doing it again this year thumbs up

It can be tricky but I found that my biggest concern was making sure they have enough water because I'm facing the hot afternoon sun and although the plants love it, I'm out there watering them so often. laugh Yep, containers and pots is the way to go when you don't get too much sun in your yard and it sounds like you've got that going well for you with some yummy crops. conversing

I think this summer I'll concentrate on big pots full of basil, coriander, chillies and little lettuces ~ they're the things I use the most conversing

lifeisadream: A few pots in my balcony is all I have and hummingbirds

Recently I have adopted two pigeons (or they adopted me?). They came around one of the kitchen window and it was a couple (husband and wife ) so I was excited they might make a nest and have their chicks by that window (so I could see them) so I placed some bread crumbs and chopped almonds for them. Those pigeons are smart because they ate the almonds and left the bread so the second day I did not gave them almonds until they finish (quasi) the bread, then they had some almonds again.

to be continued...

They -the pigeons- are not husband and wife and sometimes they even invite one or two friends over for lunch or dinner, some are rather chubby but others (few) are skinny.

They do love almonds but they are expensive, so maybe I will give them some some days but not everyday.
Crushed corn is their favorite meal (and way cheaper than almonds) and it seems they do not like wheat.

My first ever watermelon is fist sized already. Picked about 20 kilos of mangoes the other day, another 20 or so later in the week if I beat the bats and wallabies to them. Should be right for pumpkins pretty soon. And I have a turmeric thats sprouted, so I'll plant that.

Too funny! I was in the Op shop today having a look at the books, and saw a Burke's backyard. I had a chuckle to myself thinking there's going to be a whole lot more of his books there soon...

Turmeric and ginger, the wallabies will allow me to grow. Beach sand, have to add a lot of stuff to it. I noticed the high tide today, I think the Christmas king tides will be in my yard...

So today I bought pots of basil, coriander, Thai basil, parsley and borage conversing

I love borage, it has gorgeous blue flowers which are edible, plus you can eat the leaves which taste like cucumber conversing

I'll bought two plants which I'll repot in a large container, the remainder will commune happily as a family in another large pot heart1

Borage is gorgeous alright. But do make sure you plant it in containers as it reds to pop up everywhere otherwise.
Put the flowers in ice cube trays to make very pretty ice cubes for cocktails.
