Yep, the seat and lid goes down before flushing in my home....we can't be having any excreta being sprayed on our bathroom paraphernalia....that would be preposterous.

I just flushed my toilet, a standard western style one, with the lid down, on checking I couldn't find one drop of water on the underside of the lid, using toilet paper I wiped the whole underneath surface, the paper is bone dry. Maybe Chinese designed toilets are better at keeping the water in the correct place
