I think their leader fled in fear for his life, which is often an indication its possibly not an ideal holiday destination. But things can change quickly in that neck of the woods, Egypt and Turkey for example, one minute its fine and next minute its not.

The travel boards I read sight Lebanon as a safe destination at the moment with nobody reporting any issues. Government advisory websites tend to err way too much on the side of caution when issuing travel advisories, I've found, but I guess they have to.

Based on the latest UK Gov site statement today advising not to go as a visitor and a neighbour's advice on Monday having just returned from Lebanon no place in Lebanon and especailly Beirut is safe now for any visiting Westerner - in particular UK Canada or US.
