i read an official American view explaining its refurbishment, besides other they completely cut the sub in half and replaced its engine and batteries...the sub was first commissioned in 1985. To me sounds likely its a gonner, weather meant they couldn't sail her on the surface and if the dived and batteries failed its now unlikely she will be able to surface so not looking good..

I'm no expert, but I would think that the blowing of ballast to enable the vessel to surface, wouldn't rely on battery power. Surely it would be a store of compressed air that could be released into the ballast tanks by operation of a manual valve in an emergency?

One would have thought global Naval forces would have learnt something from the Russian submarine disaster in 2000.
It appears not.
I pray they find this submarine, but as the time ticks by, it seems another tragedy is inevitable.
