Here, girls are free to join the boy scouts if they choose to, but boys are not allowed to join the girl guides.

Boy Scouts are just opening the doors here to girls. Should have happened long ago.
Girl Scout groups are not so open to boy members though...

And if they don’t, they now have the choice to join the boys.

My daughter would not agree with that statement.
Girl-friendly, yes of course; but all-girl, girl led?
She wouldn't give a flying f*ck.
And good luck for the boy/man/woman who tells her she can't do something because she's a girl...

Same here, more or less.
If there are girl guides in the area, then the scouts don't take girls. If there's not, they do.
Same with football teams,

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. (I think obedient, thrifty and clean are archaic.
Girl Scout...
I will do my best to be Honest and Fair, Friendly and Helpful, Considerate and Caring, Courageous and Strong, and Responsible for what I say and do, And to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
