The bill, H.R. 38, ensures that those Americans who can legally carry a concealed firearm in one state will legally be able to do so in every other state. It eliminates the confusing patchwork of state laws that have ensnared otherwise law-abiding gun owners, and have forced law enforcement to waste their precious time and resources enforcing laws that don’t do anything to reduce violent crime.

The bill also makes improvements to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, NICS. All Americans, including law-abiding gun owners, agree that violent criminals should not have legal access to firearms. However, the system is only as good as its records, and recent events have shown that sometimes the correct information is not entered into the system. This bill incentivizes states and government agencies to update the NICS with legitimate records of prohibited persons.

I think it’s a good thing to pass and enforce.

Another Federal over reach into states rights. This should prove very interesting. This means a person from Missouri with a concealed hand gun can walk around Manhattan in NYC and totally disregard the cities Sullivan Law? This I gotta see!laugh

I wonder what the big deal was in 1911 to create a law like the Sullivan Act that tries to deny 2nd amendment rights? Was there a bunch of street fights over something like horse shot in the streets.

Having to have a permit to carry a gun is against the 2nd amendment where the government doesn’t give us a right to own a gun but instead it protects the right to have gun(s).

It's upholding the Constitution more in it's entirety. The back ground checks are nothing new. Improvements mean nothing as more than few have slipped through the cracks due to others not full filling their duties.

Any state or representative continually restricting people's rights to own and carry are in breach of the Constitution. I do hope it is fully put into law.

This will help keep many of those low life scum bags that get voted in, more in check.

We might have to worry about the NICS part more than we think.

There have been a large percentage of people wrongfully denied in the past, with out knowing why.

Who has the right to add people on this list and how can a law abiding citizen be denied the right to know why they're application for the proper licensing, has been turned down?

Each state or area is supposed to update every 6 months or so?

if crooks shouldn't have guns then why should you? The threat goes away so no need for protection.

Unless you feel threatened by someone other than crooks and thugs..

Congressional Representatives Gabrielle Gifford and Steve Scalise might agree that it is disturbing to see how eager some are to assert their second amendment right to firearms with an ambiguous threat to fellow Americans.. sigh

Do firearm background checks include social media posts like they do for immigrant background checks.. uh oh

Awful late in the reply; however

I think it's important that those low life scumbags in office remember that the 2nd amendment was put in place to help protect us against people like them.

Even if they did count social media posts, it's not a threat to any one,for the truth of the existence of the right to bear arms.

There most likely wouldn't have been a U.S. with out it. It does more than to help ensure our protection against our own government. It also makes it a lot harder for foreign invasion. The bottom line meaning of the amendment is: "PROTECTION".

You just can't help yourself can you? More name calling and ambiguous threats do not bolster your intellectual argument for protection.. roll eyes
