lifeisadream: Hi Jono

I am content of being myself.
I do like to compete
(grew up with boys and my hormones now are more masculine )
Everybody respecting me ...I do not give a peanut.

re: content
i've had moments of contentment...
i figure if i have a few more, maybe i can get them to string along like pearls...into a more lasting state....laugh

re: compete
i had a conversation with an old boss years ago..
i had been pulled into the office, and during the conversation, he asked me if i was competitive.
in response...i said, "no, i don't mind being tied for first."
he laughed and asked me if i heard myself....

Alright, Cachuchi, I'm back. And THIS yime I have a couple oof my favorite poems (quotes) for you. This first one dates back to the mid 1800's, and was written by that well known Englishman, Rudyard Kipling. So I;m including HIS version, along with my more modernized English version for everyone's perusal.

IF

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing their's and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired of waiting,
Or be lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If tou can dream -- and not make dreams tour master;
If you can think -- and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Woll which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings -- nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run --
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And -- what is more -- you'll be a Man, my son!

by: Rudyard Kipling

My Version

IF

If you can keep your head
When those about you
Are losing theirs
And blaming it on you
If you can trust yourself
When all men doubt you
And make allowance
For their doubting, too
If you can wait
And not grow tired of waiting
Or be lied about
And yet not deal in lies
Or be hated
But not give way to hating
And still
Not look too good
Nor talk too wise

If you can dream
But not make dreams your master
If you can think
But not make thoughts your aim
If you can meet
Both Triumph
And Disaster
And treat those two imposters
Both the same
If you can hear the truths you've spoken
Be twisted by knaves
Who'd make a trap
For fools
Or watch the things you gave your life to
Be broken
And stoop to build again
With worn out tools

If you can make one heap
Of ALL your winnings
And risk it
On one turn of pitch and toss
And lose
And start again
At your beginnings
And never breathe a word
About your loss
If you can force your heart
And nerve
And sinew
To serve you
Long after they are gone
And so
Hold on
When there is nothing left within you
Except your will
Which says to them
"Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds
And keep your virtue
Or walk with kings
And not lose the common touch
If neither foes
Nor loving friends
Can hurt you
If all men count with you
But none too much
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds worth of distance run
Yours is the Earth
And everything that's in it
And what is more
You'll be a Man
My son

Next, we have one of the poems that opened my brain to the "possibilities" inherent, in poetry.

Stopping By The Woods On A Snowy Evening

by: Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know
His house id in the village though
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse nearI
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake

The woods are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep
And miles to go before I sleep

The fact that he used the EXACT SAME words, for two consecutive lines, but/and in doing so, was able to give those words ABSOLUTELY DIFFERENT meanings, just BROADENED my whole "perspective" of the uses and abilities of poetry. I was SOOOOOO impressed that I used a similar device in one of my own poems! A Simple Man They say that there IS no more sincere a flattery, than imitation! And that WAS a "tool" WORTH imitating! applause doh hug wine peace teddybear

before I leave you, this evening, I have one more I'd like to share with you. Another poem by Robert Frost, about the vagaries of life. And the CREATIVE process(es). Enjoy. wine bouquet

The Road Not Taken

by: Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth

Then took the other, as just as fair
And having. perhaps. the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere, ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I
I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference

Just hope you all like these poems. They are CERTAINLY three of MY favorites! Merry Christmas yo all! And to all, a GOOD New Year! J gift peace joy cartwheel gotta go wine gnite
