Deedee123x: Do u feel doctors are also quick to prescribe the magic pill??

Hell yeah laugh
And I would take exception to the phrase 'magic'

About 3 years ago a young reporter from The Examiner presented to 7 gp's in Waterford with depression, anxiety, sleep deprivation. It was her first time visiting all 7 doctors and she walked away with 2.5 years worth of prescriptions. 6 doctors seen her for less than 10 minutes. The other talked to her for nearly an hour, specifically asked about thoughts of self harm and tried to treat her holistically. It is changing, but slowly. The pharmaceutical industry has a lot to answer for imo and the scale of corruption in this industry is off the charts. When it comes to mental health they are not interested in cure, only gaining customers.

I agree the word magic was said in jest.
Not just pharmaceutical companies r the problem.the doctors themselves r the worst.
Busy waiting rooms r the issue for them....more people to see more money for the Doctor.
I was at a doctor once for an issue and I was in serious pain....she wouldn't prescribe what I needed but simply told me "u poor pet u don't come here often enough".

The greed of doctors is the problem also...they don't see a patient they see euro signs.

But such is the problem with Irish society and the need for talk therapies and the stigma that goes with all that.

you never said a truer word, its a worrying trend, this need for an instant cure, this happened to my daughter when she was in college, was sad over a friend (not a very close one) dying during surgery, her GP who knew her for 3 minutes prescribed antidepressants...I was well disgusted

I am lucky to have a great doctor. He won't prescribe medication unless it is totally necessary. He listens to me, listens to what I think I need, and has never once rushed me in any way.
He knows I don't like drugs so encourages me to try alternative therapies.
