My sister living in Holland, told me that every year she gets a gift from her hair dresser and her gardener. Your kidding I told her here it is the other way around. In Holland the gift is saying; Thank you for your patronage. So why do we tip everytime we get out hair done etc. yet feel to give a larger tip at Christmas time?

I got a E20 voucher from my hairdressers as well
That will come in handy in the new year when I'm getting my hair cut again

No way!! Gutted. I'm. Taking my present back that I got her next time I'm in.
Basically, if they've got so much money they're giving it away at Christmas time, they've been ripping you off all year. I'd be pointing this out to them, and cutting my own hair from then on.
At least the tip I gave went directly to my hairdresser, and the voucher came from the company. .so win win
Must say Molly that it is very nice for the company to show their appreciation for your patronage. My hairdresser in also a company but privately owned

I think it's a great gesture.. it shows that they value your custom, or what Pat said!!
britishcolumbian: Totally agree with you In Canada we give exstra at Christmas not getting a thing in return
I think that applies to most of the Christian world.
I remember when I had the restaurant, people were very generous, especially towards the waiting staff at Christmas. We had a xmas tip box christmas week & I promised to make up any amout of money , if it didn't meet their expectations. Needless to say, it more than exceeded the limit.

We too had a restaurant for awhile I am sure that when you have happy staff they work better for you and treat the customers with a smile. Everyone needs to feel appreciated

. Yeah, here in Spain we ask all Dutch people "Who paid for you to come here".
I saw this post and just had to say that I have had many situations as a Barber/HairStylist but I have had some of the most wonderful clients over the years and even presently though I don't spend as much time behind the chair I still have clients that treat me better than I can say. I think a lot of it is the fact I go out of my way always to make them look and feel their best.
