Maya74: I noticed that similar topics are closed or very old, so I decided to start another one.

Do you have pets? I have a black 12-year-old cat.

Do you think that pets can be a great way to meet someone? When both people have pets, they instantly have something in common and a lot of experiences and anecdotes to share. Did you ever meet anyone thanks to your pet?

What would you do if your partner disliked your pet? Or if they were allergic to it?

I got two dogs -and i dont want my dogs to get close to my partners ...laugh

Animals should live freely unless they can not take care of themselves but that must be rather an exception, so
no pets for me.

One Brasilian guy that worked for me in Portugal told me once that in Brazil no one is allowed to own an animal although I am not sure that is true but maybe you can have a dog but not chain it or a Parrot to its perch.

My children had a dog when little but she (the dog) was alone when we had to be away, we had arranged for someone to go and feed her but she was alone although her life was not as miserable -I like to think that- because we used to have a house with lots of space for garden and the neighbor's chickens-hens would jump into our garden and this doggy would get them and eat them. We had great neighbors and we asked them to pay for their birds but they never accept it and they said their animals should not jump on our garden.

It was very sad for us to see that Doggy go and I felt guilty to have her living just by herself just because my children wanted to have a pet.

Here there is a lady that reproduce birds and she is good at that, she had like 200+ beautiful birds that she sells to feed her family, is that wrong? no more wrong than poaching the birds from the wild.

About Brazil I doubt it, people have animals and lots of them.

TokyoRogue: Coincidentally, my friend and landlord who lives upstairs has just completed an Emmett (similar pseudoscience-type thing) course run over three days which applies to animals. I don't buy into any of it myself but she says it works. As these new age treatments apply to people I think it's simply the placebo effect that offers any relief. How they apply to animals.....

I happen to be a Reiki healer and I've seen a lot of positive results...even with people who don't believe in it!

Like you...I don't like seeing exotic pets held in captivity. They should be where they belong ...free...in the wilderness.

I do volunteer work in a horse rescue centre where they are all free roaming and are being rehabilitated.
I also do Reiki on them and they love it!
It also helps them to relax before any vet intervention.
Animals are very receptive to Reiki.

I've had dogs all my life and I do it on them too if they have any pain.

guysimple: I hate cat because one cat eaten my parrot...

Keeping a cat and a bird together is not a good idea...

mollybaby: I have 2 dogs, both rescues.

My cat has a terrible personality. laugh She didn't experience any traumas as a kitten, but still - she gets scared easily and then attacks. When she was younger - she would bite my leg or hand if I sneezed or dropped something. laugh A year ago she had an operation and changed a lot since. She's much quieter and not so dangerous as before. But, she was a real panther! cool laugh She always disliked men, by the way. laugh

TokyoRogue: So, I'm in conflict about keeping pets. On one hand it's a positive thing to do if the animal is at risk, injured or in danger. But, the animal lover purist in me believes all animals should be left alone to roam. I do understand that this is often impractical and unrealistic, however.

I agree that wild animals shouldn't be kept in captivity, especially in small places. I don't like zoos or circuses.

Domestic animals and pets are different. They rely on humans a lot. Even if we let dogs and cats wander around, they will still be close to human homes and expect food and shelter from us.

Deedee123x: I have one dog..who is recovering from surgery.

I hope your dog recovers soon. hug

Track16: Currently there are 17 cats and 3 dogs here.

How do you manage? It's never boring at your home, definitely! smile

Animals live much shorter than us and sooner or later we have to say goodbye. crying I had a Siamese cat prior to this one and he died young, at the age of 6. I cried for weeks. crying But, then, even if the grief is deep, giving another pet a home and being in its company really helps. smile

I find horses are even more receptive to Reiki as they are very sensitive creatures.

When I start with them I do it at some distance until they get used to the energy. Then I do it hands on.

I don't always know if and where they have a pain but they tend to show me...or communicate with me in one way or another.
Then they are so relaxed They seem to be in a trance.
Eventually after about 20mn they suddenly wake up telling me they've had enough.

But those who have a limp for example ...after about 3 x 20mn sessions directly on their leg..they can walk again.
