jac_the_gripper: A Welsh student speaks and moves incredibly slowly like the sloth character in the animation Zootropolis. (I've seen way too many kids films through no fault, or design of my own.) I thought maybe she was on some kind of medication until recently I overheard someone else speaking in the same manner. I think it might be a North Walian accent, English largely being a second language. The Welsh (Cwmraeg) spoken in the North is somewhat different from that in the South, where Cwmraeg is largely the second language.

A week ago I had a surprise visit from my first Girl friend when when were 12 - who is 2 days older than me. She is Welsh & speaks Welsh but I can't from (Cymbran) originally, and eventually moved to America with her Husband who, after he did his national service in the RAF (Medic) worked for Pfizer at Sandwich in the mid-late 60's and was offered big job in the states.
They even paid all moving expenses & had their own homes for Key staff so he/ they accepted when the kids were young and kept their home here and rented it out via an agent. - After her husband died 2 years ago the 2 kids & grand kids are settled over there and she finally came back here.
So being a 3 bed House with a large garden. it's now the family holiday home now. - She's retained her Welsh accent and the love (religion) of Rugby & singing - There;s lovely isn't it - and - As the 6 nations starts soon we will watch the matches together. There's even more lovely Cymru am Byth cheers cheers

Because Ive first learn English from London, UK accent gained my first respect as mother of all English language roots but I find American accent and expressions less 'snoby & poshy' - could say I like the melody in American accent.wine

crazyblondeone: Like Ross from the tv show "Friends" that one kills me.

I read some of the responses on here. I never read responses, but did and I don't think we have accents. The southern states and northeastern ones do, but we don't in California.

Everybody has an accent

We just don't hear our own

We were in Virginia last March and my daughter and I were telling her husband who is from Virgina (slight accent) that the people in the store had the cutest accents, we couldn't get over it. My son-in-law said, "y'all have accents to them, they were probably thinking what crazy accents you have!" The disagreements began!shock

It is true though. Everybody has an accent.

Even people who have travelled a lot and lived in different countries, have the most neutral accents as a result, but thry still have an accent.
