Cachuchi: May I ask where does she have it? Thank you

I don't know. I did not ask. You can have it anywhere you have skin. She did say that sitting on a heating pad helps if that gives you any indication. My Father had it on his back. The last time I saw him, he showed me the scars from it.

jac_the_gripper: My sister had chicken pox as a baby (under the age of one) and shortly thereafter my dad had shingles over half of his face. The blisters on his eyeball lead to virtual blindness in that eye.

Do some further research Jac, just a suggestion. Thanks for your comment wave

We don't vaccinate here I am the UK, Life.

If a child has chicken pox, traditionally all the other kids are taken around to play to pick it up while they are young.

I had a mild infection at the late age of 12 and it was harsh in terms of the 'flu like symptoms. Younger children seem to have less fever and pain associated with chicken pox.

It's not considered life threatening, just bloody miserable. Although loss of sight from shingles blisters is an issue.

lifeisadream: How common it is that the vaccine does not work?

My Mother's doctor told her the vaccine is not a silver bullet that eliminates it but if she did not have the vaccine she would have the shingles even worse. Luckily I never had the chicken pox but I did have the measles.

the AMA (australian medical madness association) have been dishing out flu jabs, this last year, they killed lots of people with the rubbish that they are constantly pushing not to mention the worlds third largest home grown poppy growing venture that they push big time in dealing in drugs..

Here they worry about measles (which we had at least three times as kids), chickenpox, hooping cough, among others and recently they are vaccinating kids against meningococcal.
madness on steroids

Hi Jac

measless (viruela)
chicken pox (sarampion)
just to be sure

As children my brothers and I did not have chicken pox but we did have measles and yes it was a common practice to get the children together to get the disease to "build resistance".

My children had measles but not chicken pox either but my son had hepatitis A (a pre-school epidemic) and we always though he could not donate blood but recently I learnt that people with hepatitis A before 10 y age can donate blood and so is the case of the daughter of a friend of mine who has a rare type of blood and - .

It is good to know what can be done to prevent some health problems and equally import (or more) to prevent "stress".

Thankyou, for recommending I do more research, but I wasn't asking about the causes of zosta, you were. laugh

I was telling you about my family experience.

If you know something different about psychological causes, perhaps you can explain how my dad and sister came to have shingles immediately after being exposed to chicken pox some 15 years apart.

If you can't, no worries. wave

mollybaby: My mother got shingles twice, and my dad once.

He got them in his face which can be dangerous for the eyes. She got them in the classic body ring both times.

It is not a nice thing to get.

I made up a herbal rub for them to relieve the sensation, and it helped.

Thank you Molly =)

Ha! No Jac, I asked: What do you know about Zoster?
Your comment was very "enlightenme" for me so I just wanted to be nice and return the favor without more details.

I could probably offer a reliable explanation to your question, but I didn´t came here to give but to get, so I can but I do not want. (yeap, I can be no nice too)
I´m done.
Thanks again wave

I get it when highly stressed, luckily it's not a large patch. The doctor gives me two types of cream when I feel it coming on and if I'm quick enough catches before it becomes full blown. Very painful and itches like hell.

Now, you see, I thought I'd answered your open question in your op, Cacuchi. confused

I stated my family history and then I was quite careful with my wording - I stated my 'understanding' from that family history, not what I 'knew'.

Aware that my understanding was likely to be out of date, I qualified to that effect in my last sentence.

I thought I was supporting your thread. I thought you might reply with new, more up to date information in order to promote discussion, or maybe new contributions.

What I wasn't expecting was to be cut off sharply.

What I wasn't expecting was to be cut off sharply with the rather cheeky recommendation that I research the answers for the question you asked.

Cachuchi: Yes, it´s connected to chickenpox, you must have had a mild episode in your childhood so the virus remains in your body (if your immune system is strong and you had been vaccined that´s what usually happens) ...
Earth Clinic, ok thank you

I was curious about how many people here could have experienced ....but as far as I see, not so many which is good

one of my favourite co-workers developed shingles.
it kept recurring. she was working as a liaison between school, police, and families with teenagers that were at risk. ( a very stressful job, and she was fabulous at helping these kids). it was a huge loss when she could no longer return to work.
extremely painful, on her chest, shoulder, and back.

Thank you for your comment Jono, yes, that´s a very stressful job....hope she is better now. Tell her -if you are still in contact- that a stranger from a dating site envies the opportunity she had LOL
