...Hello people...
...In the United Kingdom we have various charity shops including Oxfam, The Red cross, Cancer research etc…
…Do you shop in charity shops?
…Do you donate to charity shops?
….Do you think charity shops are a good thing?

I don't shop in them but I do donate to them and yes they are a good thing because there are people who don't have as much as we do so its good that what we donate goes to someone in need.

I think charity shops are great for the community, support a needy cause and prevent a lot of people from throwing away things that they don't want? clothing, china, household items, toys, music, dvds, books etc and a lot of people like to give to a needy cause

I donate a lot to them for tax purposes. I shopped to most of them specially in the Red Cross in Collangata. All brand new designers items. I bought this guess luggage for only $90.00 which could have been $750.00 at the downtown Sydney where I bought my carry on.

I don't need anything anymore. So shopping doesn't take much of my time.

I'd rather there was a way to tax the idle use of resources. Housewives who buy expenses dresses they don't wear should be hammered by the tax man with the proceeds going to the poor, charity shops encourage people to make impulse purchases first time around and treat things disposably and carelessly. It gives waste and overconsumption a sense of moral virtue.

Charity shops are a symptom of destitution and decline at least in the first world.

I think its the opposite...if we didn't have sooooooo much stuff they couldn't exist cause there would be nothing to donate....rollers

Instead of spending on clothes you won't even wear just donate cash to your favourite charity...
Isn't it easier and less wasteful?! dunno

It supports the idea that the wealthy are entitled to all the pie and the poor fight over the crumbs created by rich people not opening and closing their mouth properly when they eat.

The shameful truth is that only a very small percent of the money actually are used to help people in need, most of the cash goes for hefty salaries of the so called charity founders...
It's a very good and profitable business...

Yes.... and some times I also give money to street baggers but when I see some of them baying ciggarets or getting drugs, I preffer baying them basic groceries, and my daughter occasionally donates some money from selling pictures to help homeless.
