Miwagi: Smells of government to me. It's a great way to control the message. Can you say Pravda.
Government sets the licence fee but does not control the output.

Miwagi: https://sites.google.com/site/censorshipbythebbc/ I'll go get a snippet of the article for you.

According to Wikipedia “The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is a British public service broadcaster headquartered at Broadcasting House in the City of Westminster, London. It is the largest broadcaster in the world, with about 23,000 staff. Its main responsibility is to provide impartial public service broadcasting in the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. The BBC is an autonomous public service broadcaster that operates under a Royal Charter and a Licence and Agreement from the Home Secretary. Within the United Kingdom its work is funded principally by an annual television licence fee which is charged to all British households, companies and organisations using any type of equipment to record and/or receive live television broadcasts; the level of the fee is set annually by the British Government and agreed by Parliament “ (see: ).

The UK BBC has an assertedly good reputation around the world for impartial, authoritative broadcasting - but there is a lot of hard evidence that contradicts this assessment. In reality the BBC is the propaganda arm of the British Government and has an appalling record of censorship, lying by commission and lying by omission in support of continuing British crimes against humanity. Hundreds of millions, perhaps billions, of people around the world have grown up listening to the words “this is the BBC”and being variously deceived by the pro-Zionist, pro-US, pro-imperialism, pro-neocolonialism censorship of the BBC, an organization with an appalling record of Anglocentric and Eurocentric censorship, lying by omission and lying by commission.

Don't bother, Miwagi. The BBC is to me what God is to you, it's sacred and I will not hear a word against it.

Although the BBC is British, and therefore the old enemy, I would still trust it more than I would the vast majority of other stations in most countries.

Well you're probably right, but we always looked on the press to be the watchdog on government. Seems like it is better when government stays out of religion.

I don't listen to it so it's not for me to judge, but it is generally considered left leaning by most over here. Here sins of omission and fake news are all the rage. People can get the news they want to hear. banana

At first Wikipedia was controversial at best. Given time and desire it always helps to verify and compare .

Today especially , every nutter, simpelton, rabid right and left, and conspiracy theorist has his own personalized news service. Middle of the road is still the best.

I remember when a political party presidential candidate was on national news screaming like he was unbalanced to an audience. Later the news verified their tape had been altered to make him appear to be screaming. The damage had already been done. Business as usual. No big deal.

mollybaby: Absolutely.

They are the only people to keep rogue politicians and businesses in check.

Who would know about major issues without good journalism?

Tabloids are another matter. They make up/embellish stories to sell headlines.

But if it were a case of taking all or none, I would take all.

Are there really good journalists today here in the USA. Most news presentations are deep inside opinion and political infotainment regardless of media used. BBC America is seen as better journalism than what we have in the USA.
