But I would not like to become obsessed with my own behaviour to the point where walking to the corner shop becomes a staged event. I could say the same thing about women, too. It's almost a compensatory pomp & ceremony and obsession with your own behaviour which comes from having no real substance or standing in the world. It's the same psychology as North Korea and its military parades.

Yes, absolutely. Teenagers do it a lot, too. Youth, women, disadvantaged minorities and powers that are not really powers have this extra aspiration around image.

The opposite of this mentality is speak softly and carry a big stick. I forget which US president said that, but that spirit encapsulates confidence over your position and place in the world.
