Bogart_1960: Left and right, depends "where", as there are many "lefts and rights" interpretations, as much as interpretations of the Bible, (Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Episcopal etc).

If you are talking about "US left and right" - the shallow one- their democrats and republicans (no idea which one is right or left) both have been virtually identical in intent, if not methodology, where ideologies are lumped together and homogenized to the extreme. . The "democrats" or "republicans" (they are not democrats or republicans) both don't have the interests on the citizen´s concerns.

The teachings of Jesus are not aligned with any political ideology as its a contradiction of "normal politics". Jesus was a hero to the poor during a time of Roman occupation. He preferred to spend time with people that no one wanted and not with the religious and political leaders. He entered Jerusalem on a mule with an olive branch ad not on a "tank" (horse) with a sword . He was a champion of empathy, forgiveness and acceptance.. etc, etc.

Only in US political arena Jesus is used in politics to justify a political stance like they are the "right ones".

Btw, I don't follow "religion/churches". I do believe in God, and I believe we can use "teachings/philosophy" (Jesus, Confucius, Allah, Buddha, etc, or a combination of whoever) to live a better life.

Well reasoned Bo.thumbs up

I really have no idea if you are sincere or not, but to give you the benefit of the doubt, I'm sorry if you took that last line as an insult. I meant it literally.

Grouchyoldfart: Molly, I think that you are right . They killed Gandi and Martin Luther King for being who they where . J F K and his brother Robert was also murdered by the extreme right wing for wanting to change the old way of doing things . I suspect that if Jesus where to come here now they would have to do away with him . First a smear campaign of lies to discredit him and then some self styled mental midget with the God given second amendment right to end his life . That is if they didn't jail him on a framed-up charge . . . .
Johnson and his Merry Men were "Extreme Rightwing"?confused

If you want to debate the issues I'll be happy to oblige. I can respect that you see things differently, but if you just want to call people names you'll have to find someone else to play.

damn the the passive-aggressive, manipulative guy. is back !!

you have no brain to debate. I´ve read some of your post (in the beginning because the subjects per se), later because I don’t accept intolerance. besides finding then a false propaganda – funny sometimes, as they are quite idiotic-, I also found some of you statements quite narrow-mindedness, and not say the least offensive to everyone in general.

you have nothing to offer, besides an empty brain - repeating and downplay your propaganda i by diversion, trying to create empathy . You are a genuinely deranged individual aren't you?

poor boi, no brain. i bet your brain is inversely proportioned to your fat gut. !!!comfort

There you go again. You just can't help yourself with the insults can you. I'm not interested in empathy. You're not really such a nice person are you? I don't really care what you think anyway. So there.

cheers

I know,... I am almost the exact opposite of everything Jesus was supposed to be. While Jesus says love your enemy, I say love beating the crap out of them. While Jesus raises the dead, I raise hell...

ups, I need some meditation for sure !

I'm withholding comments in the interest of being nice. Really doesn't matter to me if you reject my opinions or not, but we are all free to express them here. So if you chose not to debate then feel free to ignore. All we are having is an internet chat and probably won't be changing any hearts and minds on anything anyway. Try not to take it all so seriously.beer

Harbal: I may be on thin ice here because my knowledge of both religion and politics is sketchy, to say the least. I’ve noticed that the people who push the Bible at you the hardest, when talking about what’s wrong with society, are the ones who tend to have the most right wing, intolerant views, this seems particularly prevalent within a particular brand of American Christianity. This is at odds with what little I think I know about the Bible. So, I was just wondering: Based on what Jesus taught, and the example he set, would you say the way he would want us to live our lives is more in accordance with left wing or right wing ideology?

I know Jesus wasn’t political. I’m not trying to say he was.

I personally think that your question is what is termed a "Leading question" in a legal sense and would be disallowed, It restricts the debate down to two options only?.

I personally try to live my life in what "I" believe is the right way not based strictly on christen ethics/principals, I see merit/truth in all the main religions.
