1) To cast a wide net and try to seek universal approval so you get mountains of mail

2) To use it as a fine net through which to filter out (deter) the majority of unsuitable persons and that way you 'net' the one real beaut you were hoping for !

Unless you're gonna tell me there's more ?

cheers

I suspect most people would go for number 2 if they are looking for a relationship with substance! We all have a particular type in mind!

Write truth and discuss if required.

1) Pick me! Pick me! Pick me!!!!! cheering

2) Unless you can decipher the hidden meaning cloaked inside my words and answer the question, "What is the meaning of life" in your opening phrase, I'm not even going to look at your profile to see if you are tall enough and the right ethnicity...

The difference between flagging down a car like a prostitute or walking into a room where all the men's jaws hit the ground... Your sheer presence melts them.

The difference between "what you are" and "why you are the way you are".

Girls, stand tall and go for #2! Let your true beauty shine!! danceline

The simpler the better...you can always show how complicated and neurotic you are in a farther conversation...
Making your profile sound like a IQ test doesn't do you any favour unless you want to attract a wooden philosopher ...
Lacking sense of humour but demanding a great one from your partner is useless, you won't get any of his jokes...
I can add a bit more but I think the above applies to a wide range of women on CS...

I agree.
The problem in the case of No 2 is that "the net" or "filter" you have crafted so neatly in a lot of cases doesn't work.......because lots of people simply DON'T READ profiles, and some of those who do, DON'T GET IT... dunno

Anyone reads profiles nowadays? Not in my experience. They look at the picture, is all.

A third way has people choose options they don't like.

And makes it all but impossible to write a profile that says, I'm not interested in penpals or romance... I'm just here to practice writing.

Writing a profile on a dating site is not easy. People try to explain themselves and their potential match the best they can with long profiles, but only achieve to sound pretentious, demanding and boring. It's better to keep a profile short and simple. Profiles don't matter any way. It's the conversation that follows that really matter. smile

Having a profile photo on a dating site is more important than what you write in the profile itself. Many people don't want to communicate with those without profile photos, because they are scared of scammers.

I'm sure that was deliberate irony there - to suggest having pics when you currently have none yourself ?

I can only those mock people who's profiles state "Must have a pic, fair's fair you have seen mine"

"Fair's fair" surely should mean that they got to choose what they do (display pics) but they don't consider it at all fair for the other people get to to choose (pic / no pic) for themselves ?
