I suspect most people would go for number 2 if they are looking for a relationship with substance! We all have a particular type in mind!

The simpler the better...you can always show how complicated and neurotic you are in a farther conversation...

I agree.
The problem in the case of No 2 is that "the net" or "filter" you have crafted so neatly in a lot of cases doesn't work.......because lots of people simply DON'T READ profiles, and some of those who do, DON'T GET IT...

Anyone reads profiles nowadays? Not in my experience. They look at the picture, is all.

A third way has people choose options they don't like.
And makes it all but impossible to write a profile that says, I'm not interested in penpals or romance... I'm just here to practice writing.

Keep it short and simple.
Have honest up to date photos.

"Fair's fair" surely should mean that they got to choose what they do (display pics) but they don't consider it at all fair for the other people get to to choose (pic / no pic) for themselves ?
