l hate them, ggrrr ...introduced to New Zealand from Australia by settlers as big tall windbreak trees on farms & orchards ...known here as the "dead man gum" because of their habit of silently shedding branches in calm weather conditions ...grow too fast in our sub-tropical climate, up to 4 storeys plus high ...spread like weeds from seeds ...oil in the leaves kill everything on the ground & the leaves/twigs block drains ...destroy buildings/homes with their falling branches during bad weather events.

Mining companies have reforested 100s of 1,000s of acres of destroyed rain-forest in South America to make themselves look "green" ...when the truth is the evil scum-bags intend to mill them for profit in the future.

The plantations of eucalyptus gum trees turn the verdant, live moist nutrient rich jungle humus topsoil into dead hard land within 30 years of planting & are impossible to get rid of because of the seeds.

Greedy morons propagate the fast growing eucalyptus gum tree all over the planet ...it's always about the money, ggrrr

I am not so sure about the "are impossible to get rid of because of the seeds." When I was a little girl growing up here. someone introduced them to my area. It was common to see them and then boom the city made an ordinance that if found on your property you were subject to a fine. I never see them anymore here. Haven't in decades
uh oh
Not sure how they got rid of them. People just didn't like them and said they were terrible on sinus
dunno

Now if you want to get rid of an oak tree here that is another story. You have to get a permit to cut one down even in yard. Even if it is a big ol oak that is dead and needs to go mumbling
What I can't stand is the pepper tree. Oh my it is near impossible to get rid of those invasive trees. And yes someones brain child to bring them here and plant them crying Horrible messy tree

Generally, you have dramas when people take plants and animals from one place and put them in another.

According to my elderly neighbours the old Town Council planted the 2 eucalyptus gum tree saplings in the corner of the park/reserve close to our 5 new houses back in 1960, when the poultry farm & apple orchard was subdivided.

Now in our temperate climate the 2 trees have grown about 5 stories high & tower/lean over the top of us in storms ...the score so far, blocked pipes, smashed fences, smashed house roof, blocked roof gutters, flattened car garage & a huge ongoing mess.

No consideration was given to what was going to happen when the trees grew up & the city council treats what is happening to the residents as of no consequence ...in New Zealand, when people are killed in a situation like this, nobody & especially nobody in the government are ever prosecuted.

In this new millenium, totalitarian state corruption is emerging as the new normal, ggrrr

On private land? simple, have them cut down. You could go halves on the cost, as they're elderly neighbours. Even cheaper if you go 5 ways on the bill.

Put your classes on Pat ...the trees are in the park/reserve & belong to the government.

Trees generally get a bad deal "pruned" mutilated & murdered by human savages, BUT these 2 gum trees are racking up quite a big pay-back score, because of our city councils "no tree topping" policy.

There are many eucalyptus trees in South Africa too.. people don't like them much as well as nothing grows near them.. but people can control them. Eucalyptus oil is very healthy and used as medicine for coughing treatments and others... Black wattle trees also consider as a weed here, it's taking over the indigenous, grows very quickly, and nothing grows under it.. even though I like them for their beautiful yellow flowers:)
If you don't like them and have one on your property- just cut it down, no problem:)wave

so,you go wit the "Australian Pine",the Casuarina,and really create a problem!laugh

Invasive species

C. cunninghamiana, C. glauca and C. equisetifolia have become naturalized in several countries, including Argentina, Bermuda, Cuba, China, Egypt, Israel, Iraq, Mauritius, Kenya, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, the Bahamas, Uruguay and the southern United States; in the United States it was introduced in the early 1900s, and is now considered an invasive species. The species has nearly quadrupled in southern Florida between 1993 and 2005, where it is known as Australian pine.

C. equisetifolia is widespread in the Hawaiian Islands where it grows both on the seashore in dry, salty, calcareous soils and up in the mountains in high rainfall areas on volcanic soils. It is also an introduced, invasive plant in Bermuda, where it was introduced to replace the Juniperus bermudiana windbreaks killed by juniper blight in the 1940s. Now the ironwoods are growing on cliffs and sandy slopes, competing with surrounding plants; they also erode the cliffs by splitting them apart via root penetration.

Other people have our weeds, and we have theirs. Australia being mostly very dry and low in plant available phosphorous, evolution has made our plants pretty tough. A weed is just a plant in the wrong place. The OP's gum trees were deliberately planted and tended, so technically they're exotic plants not weeds.
