Irish Beer Question ( Archived) (33)

I made a fantastic Jambalaya tonight and had a perky Irish Red Ale with it that is imported from Dublin.

My question is: The foam is different than the American and Canadian beers I drink. It is less carbonated but more frothy and thick and it sticks to the sides of the glass and doesn't drip down or disappear? Any thoughts or FACTUAL explanations?beer

Smithwicks is a separate company to Guinness.
It's made in Kilkenny

Maybe there is pollution in the water they use, for example, a dead elk or something in the well.

OK Guinness might just be involved in the exporting then, maybe? They are named on the label, but yes, it is Kilkenny. I found that on the label too

Unless Guinness have bought it lately.
Guinness is a huge company now and can easily buy up smaller ones.

Elks, Bisons, armadillos... I'm not an expert on Irish wildlife, so I can only guess.

Maybe the horses with hairy feet are from Ireland? Maybe one of them fell in the well and died.

We're all on here laugh

Maybe somebody who makes homebrew would be able to answer you.

I know there is a creamier head on stout than lager. This is partly due to the ingredients, but also to the gas mix, and even pouring method.
