Just like the wild beasts, you want your own autonomy.

You want freedom.

You want freedom from negative emotion.

You want freedom from somebody telling you what to do.

Whether you are consciously aware of it or not — what all of you want is a sense of Well-being

<>

Doesn't matter even whether, or, which flag you wrap yourself for the duration of this lifespan ...
cheers

I lost my sense of well being when Ken Dod died.

People say a lot of things. There are plenty of people who want an axe to grind or cross to bear, some people grow stronger in hatred and their sense of significance and strength in life comes from it all being a burden. And when real world conditions don't allow these feelings of burden and fear the people will imagine them into existence. Certainly for conservatives the point of life is not to enjoy it but to struggle with it, the world has to be dark enough to allow a dramatic sense of burden or danger which enables you to avoid feelings of worthlessness, being relaxed would make them feel worthless. Positive emotion makes some people, many older people and most right-wingers feel more negative.

Hexagon what you are describing is a laid-back liberal.

If nothing else a great many people don't want to be happy in case they lose that happiness and this leaves them more upset.

You have to ask why people recoil at positivity and kindness in the way they do. Why does Homer Simpson hate Ned Flanders?

Generally two reasons. The first is that life is one crushing defeat after another until you just wish Ned Flanders was dead, and the second is that an ever-present sense of dread is the only way to keep your feet on the ground - i.e. Narcissism loves the fear of god or the bad boy it needs to feel on the backfoot to be able to feel anything.

And in the context of extreme inequality and alienation what takes the place of quali ty of life is endless self-promotion. Jostling for status replaces self-esteem in its entirety, the sense of being good enough as you are is thwarted by excessive and very often unrealised ambition. And this inferiority-complex-driven work ethic has only got stronger since the 1980s the decade when the whole idea of a better life for most people and a better world was completely abandoned in favour of unbridled greed, narcissism and jostling for status.
