Cruising the site I am bemused by the number of persons who are spiritual but not religious. I don’t understand.
Does that mean you select the category because ‘Klingon’ is not available, unlike the Census? crying Or more seriously does it mean you are followers of the Earth Mother, or perhaps you believe in the power of crystals and ear candles? Or is it spirits and séances and that sort of thing?

could mean they subscribe to a philosophy like Buddhism rather than a religion that believes in a one god or some similar storytelling fib but rather some other un-sheep like thought process.
And or because the choices this site offers are to limited to describe the view they maintain

You are right about the restricted site choices rodplum.
I am still floundering about the rest tho. At one level I get your point about a philosophy being spiritual; it's just that I can't think of any, apart from the obvious seance type. To me, Buddhism is far more than a philosophy. Despite its westerners 'do no harm' and the like take, it is very much a shoot off Hinduism, having Nirvana (heaven) and reincarnation as a system to get there.

I spent few years studying Mahayana Buddhism, a stint as a director of a temple named after Panchen Lama and don't see Buddhism as an off shoot of Hinduism.
Without to finer point been intended around around 518 BC the Persians invaded India and chopped the heads of every Buddhist in the country they destroyed pretty much everything Buddhist...following those events think you'll find Hinduism rose out of the ashes.
If your interested :-....
Atisha was born in India in A.D 982,

otherwise i think there are other philosophy's other than Buddhism and there are differing views of the latter as well

It is either because their particular religion is not on the initial profile application or that they are spiritual, but not a devout religious nut as for obvious reasons nobody remotely wants these on a dating site.confused

Everyone is spiritual, it's just that many are not aware of it.
