Let_Us: What do you think Socrates was thinking about, when he wrote: "I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think."
I'm sure you'll correct me about this, Let, but it was my understanding that Socrates never wrote anything down.

Kaylana04: The Biggest Mistake you can make in life is being offended.
"You hurt my feelings!!"

It is based upon egotism and wrong beliefs.(I don't deserve it. It's not fair. etc...)
"Emotions aren't random. They follow from beliefs."

We always want to punish the 'offender' - not realizing the damage we are creating by being 'offended'.

Was the offense truly directed at you? or are you merely a party who was involved against your choice?
Is revenge the best route to go? If so, what is gained by it?

And as for 'hurt feelings' - can you show me the injury? It's about as absurd as 'saving electricity' ...Can you show me the saved amount?

Being offended consumes so much of our internal energy. It turns us into negative people that others don't want to be around.

Not to mention, that when we hold it as a threat over other people, absurd governments write lengthy documents about how to not offend people.
It's called Political Correctness.

We need to grow up and take responsibility for our own actions and reactions and stop being offended.
Biggest mistake we can make in life just as in politic is: being taken by words and not look at the action !

The biggest mistake you make is you don't get to decide if you have hurt someones feelings.

The second is to assume.

I can be offended by a friend if they're too lazy or just plain ignorant about something but I will tell them because I'm very blunt when it comes to me being upfront as being blunt and upfront is a real friend piss arsing me around isn't how I treat my friends so I expect the same courtesy.

jac_the_gripper: So, if I'm offended by the torture and execution of children, it's based on egotism and false beliefs?

I shouldn't protest, or take any action with intent to stop the torture and execution of children?

I shouldn't acknowledge my offended thoughts or feelings, or indeed feel offended at all?

Healthy repression and oppression all round, eh?
That was the point the OP made, you can protest on behalf of someone who doesn't know you, or ever heard of you, but as to what action you can take is a mystery to me.

By creating a culture of 3rd party apologists, people are left wide open to those who know how to exploit that weakness, that willingness to be an identitarian.

The whole Syrian bombing was caused by a White Helmet shouting 'Gas, gas'. The reality was that the 'gas victims' were people sheltering from an artillery exercise. The 'gas' was dust that caused hypoxia, a lack of oxygen. This has been confirmed by the doctors and journalists who treated them.

What happened? Public opinion was swayed by the publication of photo's of children having dust washed out of their hair, with the caption 'Victims of nerve gas attack'. It works every time.
