CossackCat: True it might of saved her. But I agree that her title should be removed. Her identity and status changed. This has happened in other countries as well with divorce. Especially with Countesses
It was removed - but was known still as Princess Di without the HRH
The Queen wanted her to still have the title but Charles was adamant that she will not and he got his way with the divorce settlement.
The removal of the "Her Royal Highness" title, which separates the royal family from the rest of British nobility, officially obliges Diana, while she was alive, to curtsey to others who have it - her ex-husband, for instance, and even her own children.
CossackCat: QE2 can make the decision before death (from what I read). If she is concerned at all about traditions and the church, she won't choose Prince Charles.
Yes, beautiful song. But I never understood why he did that. It was written for Marilyn Monroe and he changed a few words
I never heard before that the "Candle in the Wind" was dedicated to M.Monroe. Don't know which words were changed but can't see they would have fit Mailyn but they sure fit Diana
ChesneyChrist: Monarchy is a commercial enterprise which today has little to do with history and heritage or nobility.
However being born a celebrity doesn't really bother me, celebrity culture is not a meritocracy I respect because it resembles feudalism anyway: A few families holding all the power through social status and influence, not because of any real accomplishment.
Celebrity culture is feudalism minus nobility and the royal wedding encapsulates this perfectly. The serfs play more or less the same role as they ever did.

The 8th century living right alongside the 21st is what it is. Pre-noble/pre-medieval feudalism before the powerful families became landed gentry and were more like barbarian warlords. Celebs are status warlords.
Well Chesney it looks to me like the queen has changed her mind at times but in other cases sticks to the rules about divorce and remariage as it suits, to be okay at times. The whole royal bussiness to me is stupid....... commoners can become queen........

Obsession with celebrity is like free love, you think it's modern but in reality it's pre-civilised. It's going back to the days of warlords and bad boys, defaulting on the natural way of humanity which is savagery and blind obedience to popular authority at the expense of the enlightenment, the rule of law and a better life for your children

I don't mind Queen Liz because she behaves like a royal - it will be on her orders that Meghan Markle is removed from Instagram - she checks against a society and people completely in the palm of its Kim Kardashians, Simon Cowells and Donald Trumps. She's the last remnant of an extinct elite which believed in great power coming with great responsiblity.

Technically queen Elisabeth is my queen too, but too the tower for me, as It leaves me totally cold. I have read several books about what went on at court during the "Good old days" Henry V111 etc.
It makes sense it what your saying Riz, thank you, good explaination William, has told that someday he knoqa hw will have to take the throne but he made it clear that he did not want to do so right now, who could blame him?
britishcolumbian: Read the first part of why the queen can not even attend the wedding of her grandson. Megan has been divorced well so has Charles in the biggest scandel ever. So he could still be King?

Yes , but he was talking during an interview about his life right now, that he wanted to enjoy the little freedom he had at this time and that he had no desire to want his father dead, he then went on to say how much he missed his mother and that if his father was taken away right now he was not sure he could cope with that loss. But of course the media cut that bit out and sensationalised his comments.
I think William and his wife will make a fine King and Queen, but I also respect Charles and his desire to help those less fortunate, for example, the Prince's Trust, that has helped thousands over the years.

rizlared: Almost right, but the title goes to the first born not the first male, this was changed a few years ago. Not a problem about Camilla, as they were married before Charles becomes King, but unlikely she will have the title Queen, most likely Duchess of Wales. Collectively they will be Their Royal Highnesses.
My understanding is that Charles has the prerogative to name her Queen should he so choose. Otherwise, she will be The Duchess of Cornwall. The Duchess of Wales is reserved for the wife of a crown prince, not a consort of a king. (according to a short little old lady rummaging through the dusty books in the college library! )

Must have been a blond moment, of course she would be Duchess of Cornwall.

If she was allowed to keep HRH (Her Royal Highness) she would have been given full royal bodyguard protection - which may have saved her.
The driver was over the limit the bodyguard has no say who drives
