The identity of Jack the Ripper is probably the most famous criminal mystery in the history of criminal mysteries.

Sherlock Holmes is the most celebrated detective in the history of detectives who are celebrated.

So, given that these two were both operating at the same time, during the 1880s, how come Sherlock, the greatest detective who ever lived, didn't use his incredible deductive abilities to track down Jack, the most wanted criminal of his time?

The answer is obvious, they were both the same person, of course. Sherlock Holmes was Jack the Ripper. Case closed.

Umm...Sherlock Holmes was a fictional character created by Arthur Conan Doyle.confused
Jack the Ripper has been identified with 98 percent certainty as a Whitechapel butcher by trade. The attacks stopped at the same time as he was committed to a lunatic asylum on other grounds.
Like most mysteries this wasn't best selling news and so has largely been ignored.professor dancing
