bigjb62: I have been repairing appliances for about 25 years except for about 5 years where I did mostly handy man work. It usually took about 5 years before I saw any newly designed appliances so at this point I'm about 10 years behind whats currently available.
I can tell you this, in the last 10 years the quality of appliances has fallen way down and there are few if any made that can compare to stuff that is 10 years old or older. 15 years ago if someone asked me what brand I would recommend, hands down I would have said Whirlpool across the board. Now I say if you want quality buy old whirlpool stuff otherwise it's a crap shoot.
I agree with you about Whirlpool. I have been very lucky with Kenmore appliances specifically washer and dryer.

Most people don't know that Kenmore is just a name Sears uses to put on appliances made by other manufacturers. Most Kenmore appliances were made by Whirlpool but not all.
