Many will know I have a dislike for Trump, I feel he is the wrong man to lead the worlds most powerful and influential country, I think he is an egotistic moron, I still have this opine.

However, today's meeting with North Korea’s leader has to be seen as a step in the right direction, it could well be that putting the two top egotists together can actually achieve a harmony, and thereby a start to peaceful negotiations.

I also feel that left-wing media using the G7 debacle to undermine the meeting is a disgraceful way to behave, the two situations are miles apart and one should not be used to destroy the other.

It will indeed, be interesting to learn the full outcome of the historic meeting.

I did give the nuke matter more than a passing thought when Hawaii had a bit of a panic . Stuff up his aim and who knows just where it would turn up . I doubt he will give up his nukes , look no further than Ukraine for a lesson .

The local TV news here showed two photos of Kim, one as he left his palace and the other as he boarded the Chinese plane used to take him to Singapore, the inference being that they were, in fact, two different people, the news station stopped broadcasting these images very quickly.
It does make one wonder, Kim needed an interpreter, yet he is supposed to be able to communicate in English. Speculation I know, but interesting.

There is to much about him attending schools in Switzerland including a private English language school to be untrue . It would serve nobody if it was or wasn't true so could be taken at first glance . Rodman will be able to vouch for the mans authenticity , this would be funny if it was not so serious . Surly if it was a double having the same language skills would be a start .

They are similar enough to understand each other.
A diplomatic moderate wouldn't have a hope with either.
But if it works, great.

Absolutely, maybe even worth a Nobel Prize if it all comes to fruition, time will tell.

Indeed. It reminds me of the old Irish saying (my Irish is not good enough so I'll translate) that 'a rogue likes another rogue'....

Only downside is that the misery of the people in NK will continue.

The choosing of Nobel Prize winners sometimes leaves a lot to be desired....

I prefer when they go to people who do continuous good work on the ground, not the one big moment in the spotlight

They had no hope before.

At least if they are not as cut off from the rest of humanity, they may have some hope of a better future.

My opinion is that Trump is Churchill but he’s doing a Neville Chamberlain. He’s under no illusions as to what China etc are all about, but he agrees with them. An authoritarian state is better for business and all it needs to be is socially conservative whip hand at home but wholly integrated within global capitalism. Trumps protectionism is a means to end which is total free trade, to have no protection or defence against the transnationals whatsoever is the secret plot and same as before today’s fascist rank and file are the lackeys of finance capitalism with them being the last to know.

And the problem with global/total capitalism is that the rich get richer at a much faster rate than anybody else and it ultimately ravages the middling ranks of society. It doesn’t matter that in paper everyone gets richer, there’s a limit in inequality where beyond this people start to give up on life because any positive steps you make seem trivial in the rat race, corporations merge into yet bigger and bigger corporations and society burst apart at the seams.

I don't like the man but if he can broker this peace deal than kudos to him and I agree it takes one to think like one and that probably the only reason it might get somewhere.....wine

Trump spent an hour or two with Kim; and Kim brainwashed him into agreeing that we we're being provocative, to abandon our ally, and stop joint military maneuvers with South Korea..

Kim, made the same promises he always made.

Ya gotta give Trmp credit for that.

According to some analysts, Trump gained nothing, all exactly the same as ten years ago, it now all depends on further negotiations, Trump made greater concessions, but you have to speculate to accumulate.
Time will tell, too early to make a real judgement IMO.
