For starters, why waste a perfectly happy and compatible couple on the institution? But here in the USA, if you must, the legal age is typically 18, but in many states, under certain circumstances, typically 14. The youngest on record was, of course, in an Appalacian State (Tennessee---surprised, not WV?) at only 10 years, almost 2 decades ago--no loger possible. In other places, some marriages at this young age, typically for females, is still allowed, often under arrangements by families. The thirties are likely a good time, as still can have children, tend to be more mature and setttled, and have heard all the lines, and met one's share of Arseholes.

In tracing my ancestry I found a marriage back in the early 1800's where one of my Aunts and Uncles had gotten married where she was 14 and he was 15.

Warhol said something about people living longer meaning they stay babies for longer and this seems pretty much on the money.

Mother Nature strongly disagrees with women waiting until their 30s to start a family - it’s a recipe for half-arsed parenting and autistic kids - but society encourages it now.

People live longer and it means they are younger for longer and if hundred years ago a 15 year old was old enough to marry and have kids, now the age is way up...
Birth defects in late 30's major?!... rolling on the floor laughing
Many women now have their second if not first child at that age and in their 40's...
My sister had her third child in her 40's (natural birth) and my mother got into her very short and easy menopause at 60...it means mother nature thinks different...

"Unlike most Western countries, 19 of the U.S. states do not have a legal minimum age of marriage. Individuals aged 18 have the ability to marry in U.S. states except Nebraska (19) and Mississippi (21). In addition, all states, except Delaware and New Jersey, allow minors to marry in certain circumstances, such as parental consent, judicial consent, pregnancy, or a combination of these situations. Most states allow parties aged 16 and 17 to marry with parental consent alone. In most states, children under 16 can be married too. In the 31 states which have an absolute minimum age set by statute, this age varies between 14 and 18, while in 19 states there is no statutory minimum age if other legal conditions are met. Although in such states there is no set minimum age by statute, the traditional common law minimum age is 14 for boys and 12 for girls - ages which have been confirmed by case law in some states. Over the past 15 years, more than 200,000 minors married in US, and in Tennessee girls as young as 10 were married in 2001, before the state finally set a minimum age of 17 in 2018."

US preaching "morality".!!

Yeah it was hard to believe, but US, Saudi Arabia and Yemen have the same "minimum age".

"Due to legal loopholes, more than 200,000 children married in the United States over the last 15 years, mostly girls married to adult men. Girls as young as 10 were among the minors who wedded under legal loopholes."

"We learned that in 38 states, between 2000 and 2010, more than 167,000 children — almost all of them girls, some as young 12 — were married during that period, mostly to men 18 or older.

Many of the children married [in the United States] between 2000 and 2010 were wed to adults significantly older than they were, the data shows. At least 31 percent were married to a spouse age 21 or older.

...Crazy world we live in.

22 for boys, 20 for girls
The one child rule was relaxed a long time ago, but in some cities the recommendation is one child as the population is too large to sustain, in the poorer provinces parents can have 3-4 children, especially if the first 1,2,3 is a girl, as the tradition in China is that the son looks after his parents when they can no longer work.

doh So the "farmers" can "have" all the "help" they want/need, huh? And they're willing to let the girls go, but want to keep the boys around, longer? Interesting! I KNOW about the oriental predilection for "sons". From things I've heard (NO "first hand" knowledge), a lot of "females" got "tossed on the dumpster" while the 1 child rule was still in affect. Which causes me ANOTHER problem! How IS it, that China has "leftover" women, NOW? I would think that there'd be TOO MANY men, to have ANY "leftover" women? Is there some peculiarity at work, that I know NOTHING about? Or is it some result of women having TOO MUCH position and status, now, with women taking up roles in the "workplace/society"? It MUST BE "interesting" to have a front row seat, during such a "gestation" and "emergence" of the "butterfly", from the "pupa"! Any "things of significance" you've noticed, in the time you've been there? And is it "Dragon Boat Festival" time there, now? I KNOW it SHOULD BE soon, if it hasn't occurred, yet.

Well, gotta run! Thing to do! Have a HAPPY day! thumbs up cheers grin
