sweeper2: have 4 dogs now I look into soul ie eyes I just like a good staring match but no they want my glasses think I get a cat
I think cats are worse for a staring match, have you tried putting a piece of food on your nose? I had a shepherd mix that would balance food on his nose until I said... OK! and he flipped his head and always caught the food before it hit the floor.

M4_Mischief: I did that with my dog more than once rach....she was shepherd/husky so she tried to be dominant.....
Exactly Flirty, they're pack animals and need to know if they or you are Alpha. Even if the pack changes, it still has to be defined.
I remember when I got Barney, he would not let me back into my own car. It was do or die. For 11 years we were the best of mates for it. He was 10 then. His pack was changed and he needed to know.
Catchup7: Don't look a Doberman in the eyes, they'll attack.
That all depends on how much fear you have.
If you look at a dog without any fear in your heart, it'll be afraid of you.
Dobermans work best, if you have more than one of them... They're very smart; but not that tough. Especially AKC Dobermans, with their stylized skinny heads. The AKC ruins excellent breeds of dogs; by breeding for looks, at the expense of health.
When I was shopping for a dog breed in the book, K9 Bodyguards, I read that Dobermans can't take blows to their heads; and they give up, If you hit them hard.
I have an American Bulldog. A sleeve for training attack dogs that'll last a year training Dobermans, an American Bulldog can destroy in one bite.
If you hit an American Bulldog, it just pissed him off.
