pKrema: Shhhh...don't tell anyone...
Now all Eastern Europe will be under quarantine...
That's how the myth of Eastern Europeans being gypsies spreads. And it couldn't be further from the truth.

pKrema: I am always direct but the way I express myself is much more colourful when using Bulgarian...
Same with Russian...
But English is a bit dry for that matter...sometimes I need to use few words to actually say something that takes only one in my lingo...and therefor it loses its true meaning and the feeling it should create...
I believe it puts a different light on the way others perceive me...
Finnish is an expressive language, with enormously long words, but they have had some great literary writers and a lot of their colloquialisms are similar to the English ones. most people under 40 can speak perfect English The English should learn some foreign languages, and not be so insular cats meow

I used to study German in the university but couldn't stand it, so, quickly went back to Russian...
Greek was much easier to learn as it has similar nominal morphology...
But in general, Brits find it very, very difficult to learn Bulgarian...and they don't really need to as more and more people speak English...

I have met a lot of ignorant people asking me super idiotic questions about Eastern Europe, really unacceptable in the modern world of technologies and internet, every answer is a click away...
Our Gypsies are kittens compared to the Western "travellers"...

Mayako: This is a thread for all of us who speak at least one foreign language.

Do you have a feeling that your personality or - at least - the way you express your personality - changes depending on the language you speak?

I noticed that I'm much more direct and straightforward when talking/writing in English than in my mother tongue. I write on this forum and another one in my native language and I can see the difference in the way I express my thoughts and the way I write. I'm much less direct and much "softer" when writing in my own language. Then, when I talk/write in Japanese, I become even less direct and even more gentle.

It's not only about the style - it's as if the differences of those languages (and the culture they come from) make me feel and behave a little differently.

Does this make sense to anyone?

Did anyone else notice this?
I love England and I feel good speaking English wave

snowlynx: Do you still understand your Native American language? do many people still speak it?
Hello snowlynx, sorry I didn't reply to you. Up until the year of 1999 I didn't know a whole lot about my native ancestry so I only spoke English language. But as time went on I did look up the Ojbwe language but unfortuantely I still don't speak it.In my early childhood days though hearing my father talk it some I may had probably picked it up.I would've also spoke French too.
