The organisation I work with is big on regular after-work get togethers ~ dinners, trivia nights etc conversing

I feel a bit hesitant about socialising with colleagues and management, how do you feel about this wine

Hi Serene wave

The hesitation is a good thing. It’s good to be on good terms with work colleagues but one must also be very careful at the same time.

Be nice, be cordial but never reveal too much of your personal details and info lest they’d use it against you in the future for their personal gain.

Or maybe I’ve been watching too much Chinese drama series... uh oh

I would go out occasionally, but not regularly.
Maybe a Christmas party, or a summer BBQ or something.
But generally I tend to leave work at work, and social life outside of work.

Aaah, so you're with the redcoats hey? no wonder the convicts are trying to lure you away from the video cameras...
I'd say a polite appearance, and then I have to go and feed the dog or whatever. After a few times it will be obvious you're not doing it all as a way of increasing your social circle.
