Navy chiefs have pledged to protect the 65,0000-ton carrier from the "eye-watering" threat of Russian submarines as it sails to the US.

Two F-35 fighter jets will be flown onto her deck for the first time during the 11-week trip across the Atlantic.

The voyage will include flight trials and a stop at New York.

The honour of landing the first of the training jets on to the carrier will go to one of three British pilots taking part in the US deployment.

On return from the initial OST and helicopter certification work, further work was undertaken to prepare the ship for operation of fixed-wing aircraft, in conjunction with regular maintenance and installation of her final weapons fit. On 18 August 2018, Queen Elizabeth sailed for the United States where flying trials of the F-35B will begin; during this period, the ship will also pay its first foreign port visit to New York.

A "full operational capability" is predicted for 2020

SHE is the crowning jewel of the British fleet and is soon to set sail with the Royal Navy for the first time - but the £3.1 billion vessel has already faced a massive setback.

Here, we examine everything there is to know about the UK's most expensive ever warship - HMS Queen Elizabeth.

Was HMS Queen Elizabeth leaking?

The Royal Navy’s new aircraft carrier had a leak so serious it may need to go back into dry dock at Rosyth — for repairs that will cost millions.

UK Navy Vows to Protect New Aircraft Carrier From "Frightening" Russians

The 71,650-ton Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier is the biggest warship ever to be built in Britain, and has been undergoing sea trials since setting sail from Scotland's Rosyth dockyard in June 2017.

Commodore Andrew Betton, commander of the UK Carrier Strike Group, said that other Royal Navy warships in the task group will protect the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier from the so-called "Russian threat" during the carrier's upcoming sea trials in the Atlantic Ocean.

"Russian submarines are more active in the North Atlantic than they have been since the Cold War and we take that very seriously, the ship will be well protected as she makes her transit across the Atlantic," Betton was quoted by the UK news network ITV as saying.

So that's why our welfare state declares people fit for work when they're dead. The country has to make savings.
