I don't see the problem.

It's like saying you wouldn't date someone cos they'd had a previous lover(s).

No, it actually isn't more painful...
There could be many reasons why people don't remove a certain tattoo, they are afraid of scarring (very common fear), pain, they just can not be bothered, they haven't met someone really special to make them feel like wanting to get rid of the tattoo as soon as possible...
