The devil wants you to enjoy this life so much that you don't care about any other life in this life or the next. Attachment to the earth serving to detach from the holy spirit. The devil wants you laughing like a hyena, laughing all the way into the fire.But soul comes from the blues and Jesus sat with the lepers for a reason. Jesus is the king of the poor and the beaten down. Christians used to whip themselves on the back for a reason and all of Christianity is austere for a reason. It would be Christian to treat the good times and bad times as just the same, both are nothing next to heaven.

And then there's death. All of religion is a coping mechanism for death, if people didn't die there wouldn't be any religion.
