Mercedes_00: Yes I love that show..I have watched many shows about the Romany and the Travellers
I was blown away to find that the Romany gypsy's to have root's in India and came to Europe in the 13th century.
Most travellers here don't actually have those kind of weddings. They can't afford them. Most of the ones you see on the shows are richer ones living in Britain.
I rush travellers aren't related to the Romany. But mqny aren't of the same DNA as settled Irish either. As they were traditionally nomadic, the bloods never really mixed, and still don't. Travellers generally marry other travellers.

It's rare for them to go against their parents' wishes. It is a very family-based culture. Different generations live in the same house/caravan ,or very close to each other.

Yep very rare indeed but this particular show I was watching was about those who went against their parents wishes..I cried how they were banished ect.
Watching well off girls choose a guy to marry and live in a caravan with virtually nothing.

To choose love who has virtually nothing is fine but to be banished by your own family at such a young age is sad all because of blood lines ect

Yeah. But things are improving. .slowly. More girls are staying in education and not getting married so young. They can't get married until they are 18 here anyway. Before, some priests used to turn a blind eye, or they go to the north which has a lower marriage age, but most are not, luckily.

Yeah I could never wrap my head around the fact so very young and from a young age their lives were all about plastering on makeup/marrying and cleaning.
