I really hope that Britain has thought this thing through. I can see people thinking of it all as a romantic dream. Make Britain great again..
But Britain doesn't have its colonies to supply its riches and greatness anymore. It is a relatively small island which will be stuck geographically in the middle of the EU, but not in it.

2 of 4 countries, Scotland and NI, don't want to leave the EU. That only leaves half of the country which wants to leave. And I would say half the population of thst half don't want to leave either. That leaves a very small percentage that wants to leave to chase this dream of former greatness .

I think they have the right to leave, but it may not be the best thing for them or anybody else.

The EU needs to be radically restructured. And it would be better if Britain had a part in that restructuring than leaving.

Don't forget there are many who want out from NI and Scotland to. Wasting their time rekindling the colonies feeling if it is that . More a Don't make Britain worse anymore . None of my adult children see Britain as anything special . The traveler among them has been to Ireland twice ,dairy connection's horsey stuff , but not the UK ,no connection to there . I hope the UK can get out of the EU , others to .

You are 100% correct, the UK shouldn't leave the EU, but (there is always a "but") the whole political nightmare that controls the EU has changed the goal posts. The EU is no longer a "Common Market" and as you said, Britain should be helping to restructure the sorry mess, sadly, due to Blair, giving away the right for Britain to veto and be in a position to restructure, it means the UK contributes far more than it receives, the EU actually works against Britain's best interests now, added to that England does not have any leaders that are strong enough to lead the way in the EU.

If Thatcher or someone with similar balls were in power, then Britain would not need to leave, Britain could work with other countries to make the whole of the EU successful. It's a lovely dream!

Well, Theresa May's sellout plan looks certain to be so unpopular among both Brexiteers and Remainers that it will give the government an excuse to delay, fudge, obfuscate, and generally weasel out of Brexit altogether.

Hardly a surprise.

The British people may get what they voted for - some time next century. But I'm not hopeful.

To use a terrible pun to make a serious point, the British people have been DUP-ed.

The question now is, how long will it be before the British government finally admit that Brexit ain't gonna happen?

galrads: I still believe England is better off dropping the EU nonsense and become the next Territory of the USA. and in a couple years, after loyal conscription is tested and proven, we should let England be the 51st State of our Union.
"England"

I still favour Imperial Union, an idea popular a hundred years or so ago, and even advanced at the time by some big names, including the then New Zealand Prime Minister.

Basically, a Federal structure a la the EU or USA, but among the countries of the White Commonwealth.

Realistically, of course, its time has passed and it won't happen, sadly.....
