What exactly do you mean with alternative holidays? That some people choose to sleep in tents?
I was young once upon a time, believe it or not, and being out in the wild and sleeping in tents was the only option if you wanted to go out of town and spend some time in the nature: a sea side of forest. What's wrong with that?

Camping for me , is just a step up from sleeping on the streets . I camp for three nights every year at a music festival and every year it gets easier because I get more organized, well my friend takes all the essentials for cooking etc and I take two tents one to sleep in and they other for my clothes and toiletries

So as an alternative, I'm taking the family to "flu camp" !!
Basically, they inject you with the flu virus & you shiver for a week & its cheap alternative .. win win !!

they enjoyed it and we enjoyed it because of them.
We did go to the south of France camping though, and a few in UK
as well as Mayo Cork etc.
Now i like my holidays in more comfort, and the sun on my back.
