I have a little platform / deck at my back door and now a rat made its home under it. I wouldn't mind if it lived somewhere in forrest, but I do not want it as a close neighbour. A method that kills it quick and painlessly would be the best solution.
Before someone recommends poison: we have hedgehogs here and neighbours let their cats out. I don't want to cause any collateral damage.

Too expensive. If the rat was inside my flat, extermination by a professional would be covered by insurance. But for an outside rat I'd have to pay. And there's no guarantee that another rat next year would find the space under my deck attactive for a nest.
I've heard there is a device that scares away rodents. Any experience of that?

, there are some advertises about some small electrical devices that broadcasts low frequencies that are intolerable for Rats and mouses ... I have no idea if it really works there is also a special glue for rodents ,but its dangerous for other small animals
deedee123xo: Good old fashioned rat traps and cheese. Cheap...throwaway ...job done...and your not left with a dog to mind and look after
Actually, yes. Have googled and it seems to be the best method: quick and cheap. Will wait to late autumn, when hedgehogs go into hibernation and buy a rat trap.

I suspect that a device of that kind might scare off all life within 10 km, but rats, as persistent as those animals are :/

Keep in mind.... A rat can have up to 6 litters per year with between 10 and 15 young. That Rat is not alone
