'Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world's grief. Do justly, now. Love mercy, now. Walk humbly, now. You are not obligated to complete the work but neither are you free to abandon it.' - the Talmud.
mollybaby: You can only deal with what you can deal with. If you can't effect change, then don't burden yourself with it. And I don't have a beer paunch either
Molly, you may not be beer-bellied, or flat-bellied, but I hope you have a belly. They're nice to have.
Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.
A large ego will wish to effect great changes in double quick time, but the world doesn't often work this way and religiosity is there to teach you to keep the faith in spite of ones modest ability to do good works. Religiosity seeks to avoid the condition of the baby boomers where as arrogant youth they sought to change the world and yet because the 1960s didn't change everything they gave up on adult responsiblity to democracy and ignored politics and the way the world works for almost 50 years.
Seriously, although I appreciate the online cornucopia of information that the internet is, we are all burdened with issues that we weren't even aware of in a previous life. Every headline is your headline, every atrocity, is there to be consumed with your breakfast. The world's problems have become our collective problems. Oy vey.

Wow, that gives me courage to keep going. I see the enormity of each person's grief; I can't even bear to think of the world's. But for me to know that I just need to keep going....well, I do know it, but thanks for the reminder.

Forgive me for the disconnected quantum hop...but in terms of 'keeping going', this meme sprang to mind: 'a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.'

Chesney, why should 'religiosity' be able to promote change for the baby boomers, any better than the current tools at hand?
