Conrad73: Trolls?
You Guys ought to have been here in the "Golden" Era of SanFranCali,The Camel and sundry others!
The time when you could just sign up,post,no waiting period!
That's what I was thinking Conrad, the days of absolute mayhem on the forums which almost brought them to an end. I do believe the police had to get involved at one stage.
I don't think there are any trolls, in the true sense of the word, these days on the forums, just a few argumentative individuals who are quite harmless really.

Something changed, that's for sure. There were a few who were hell bent on getting the forums closed down, mainly those who had been booted and kept coming back with a different, or multiple profiles.
Remember 7 eyes (probably cali) and his fake sidekick, she was supposedly from Ireland?

Crazy days indeed.

uh oh

Remeberror the period when someone was hijacking profiles and posting under their name? Even with their profile pic. That caused a lot of trouble.
I had my profile hacked, it caused a great deal of upset. They posted, with my profile, derogatory remarks about my good friend Trish, (I'm sure you remember her) and it looked like it was a genuine post.
She rang me shortly afterwards in tears asking how, after 30 years of close friendship, could I say things like that about her. I hadn't seen the post and was totally confused.
After that it happened many times to other members.
That was serious trolling?

It was a concerted attempt to get the forums closed down, and I think they very nearly succeeded.

How is that possible? - to hijack a profile? Do you just create a duplicate, steal someone's photo, and troll away? Surely it can't be that easy?

Not that difficult at the time, and most of those trolling back then we're not stupid, they were very clever and extremely manipulative.
There was a few who used multiple profiles to cause as much disruption as possible, some openly boasted they would get the forums closed down.
I think admin has since taken steps to ensure profile hijacking is not quite so simple these days.
